    Hi Julope,

Thanks for the suggestion although unfortunately this will not work. The MT4 FXT data files for each timeframe differ slightly in their headers. If these files do not have the information that MT4 expects, it will give an error.

    Regards.

    Hi Bean76,

Without detailed information, we’re assuming you’re getting the “no data for testing” error which is discussed in this post:

    viewtopic.php?f=2&t=354

Have a search for other forum topics by searching for the error message you are getting.

Otherwise, please provide some detailed information about what error you are getting any relevant information such as:

    – What symbol you are trying to export and the name of the symbol in your broker MT4 terminal (eg. ‘EURUSDm’).
    – Whether you are launching MT4 via Tickstory in portable mode (i.e. In Tickstory File->Settings->MT4 Settings, your ‘Command-line arguments’ are set to ‘/portable’).
    – A screenshot of the contents of your data folder directory (In MT4, go to File->Open Data folder).
    – Your Tickstory MT4 configuration setup (particularly the location of your data folder – it needs to match the location of the MT4 Data Folder above).
    – And any other information that may assist.

    Thanks.

    Hi Greensaturn,

We have tried to reproduce your issue but have not managed to. Here are the steps we took:

    – Make sure you are using the latest v1.5 of Tickstory.
    – Extract the MT4 installation to a new directory (if you are using Windows 7+ then do not place it in C:Program Files – put it in a folder such as C:Software to avoid Windows permissioning issues).
    – Run the MT4 terminal once.
    – Select the MT4 installation directory in the Tickstory setup.
    – Launch MT4 via Tickstory.

Hope this solves the issue for you.

    Hi Junixsy,

Thanks for your feedback. Where would you expect Tickstory to source the data from? Yahoo? We are planning such a feature.

    Hi Jeff,

Under the history folder, you should see a number of directories which correspond to the server connections that the broker has (eg. FXCM Demo). This is where the HST files are stored for the currently connected server.

    Hi Deuteronomy818,

    Does this link assist you:

Seems there are permissions on your operating system that are preventing the installation.

    Hi Trader2384,

If you have followed the steps correctly from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-rMOen4UHg, you will note Step 4 is needed to launch MT4. By performing this step you will ensure that MT4 uses the data that Tickstory has generated. If you do not follow this step, then MT4 will generate its own data file along with the spread value you selected in the back-tester.

So knowing this, to correctly use Tickstory’s tick data, you will need to launch MT4 via Tickstory. If you wish to change the spread, you will need to edit the FXT file with Tickstory’s MT4 Editor.
The MT4 spread drop-down option will have no effect.

    Regards.

    Hi Rodrigo,

Usually you can do this as long as the MT4 Strategy Tester does not have the history files locked. This often happens after you complete a test with a particular currency pair – you can no longer export it again as you’ll get a “file in use” error. If you aren’t getting this error then everything should export fine.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi szabbcsi,

The spread value is set in the “MT4 Info” tab when you export from Tickstory. The MT4 Strategy option to set the spread has no effect. Check out this thread for further background info:

    viewtopic.php?f=2&t=479

The manual also describes how to set the various export values including the spread.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Deuteronomy818,

It sounds like this is a permission problem. Can you please try Right-clicking the setup.exe file and “Run as administrator” and see is that resolves it?

    Thanks.

    Hi Trader2384,

Back-testing using Tickstory Launcher bypasses the usual data (FXT) file generation and allows it to create a data file with accurate tick data and the spread you selected in the Tickstory export. If you don’t launch via Tickstory, this effectively means that MT4 will create this FXT file (along with the chosen spread), however the data file will contain only 1-minute historical information that is taken from your broker.

    Hope this explains it better.

    Hi Trader2384,

Yes, this is the correct way of changing spread. The spread option on the MT4 Strategy tester effectively embeds the chosen spread into the FXT file – something which Tickstory already does for you.

    Hi Trader2384,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. If you are only moving the testerhistory (i.e. the FXT files) and not also the tester (i.e. HST files), then you are very likely to have mismatched data. The tester uses both the HST and FXT data for the strategy test and they need to match with each-other as per the original export.

    Hope this helps.
