    Hi Armnic,

Thanks for your update. It seems that you might need to resolve the access prompt you are getting before things work correctly. What might possibly work is to wait until MT4 has been launched and then press F8/Launch again in Tickstory.

The changing of the title bar is not a biggie as long as you’re getting 99.9% modelling quality. Sometimes MT4 will refresh the title bar when charts are opened/closed.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Thomas,

It doesn’t appear that the EA has run at all. If you have attached the EA to a live chart, you will need to wait until at least one tick of data/pricing comes through for that pair before the EA will run. Alternatively, you can run the EA in the strategy tester.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Sonny,

The most common issue when you have problems running Tickstory is to make sure you have .NET v3.5 installed (NET v4.0 is unfortunately not the same as .NET v3.5). If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please give us further details of the error you are getting.

    Thanks.

    Hi Josip,

The problem you describe appears to be different to that of Armnic – the original post seems to suggest that the launcher is not working resulting in a “n/a” modelling quality. In your case, however, you are suggesting that a particular date is causing your back-test to stop. As you are aware, having an FXT file larger than 4GB will cause the back-test to stop whenever MT4 finally can’t handle the amount of data. As per your suggestion, we have tried to export a specific date range to try replicate your problem:

    – Using MT4 Build 670 (downloaded from Metaquotes.net)
    – Exported EURUSD from 1st April 2014 to 1st May 2014 with default settings (timezone, etc).
    – Launched MT4 via Tickstory.
    – Back-tested EURUSD with the standard “MACD Sample” EA in “Every tick” mode, M15 period.

The results yielded the expected 99.9% quality and the back-test did not stop until the end of the period (trades were taken up to the 30th April 2014). There was no “close at stop” at the end of the period.

Do note that depending on when you start your back-test, your EA could be the culprit if the draw-down during the start period is too much. The “close on stop” problem usually indicates that the back-tester needs to close your trades for some reason – typically blown account. Looking at the 15-minute chart for the 29th April, there was a major dip in price.
If you still believe it is the data causing the issue, you can check the MT4 Historical Data center for any anomalies. Generally speaking, however, if you are able to run the MACD Sample EA across the data with no problem, it wont be the data causing your issue.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. Please note we may split this thread to ensure there is no confusion between this issue and that of the original poster.

    Hi Peepmoney,

Could you please clarify which issue you’re having – is all your history data being deleted without having explicitly done this yourself?

    Thanks.

    Hi Deuteronomy,

Thanks for getting back to us and great to hear you solved it! Doesn’t sound like an easy solution in the end but at least there’s a lead to look into further if it happens to other users.

    Regards.

    Hi Armnic,

Thank you for your detailed post. The problem seems to relate to the launcher and the fact that in step 2 you are getting the launcher error (there is no need to have pressed the ‘Like’ button). We have tried downloading a fresh copy of Metatrader from Metaquotes.net with Build 670 and have no issues. Can you please try to see what happens if you press ‘launch’ again after MT4 has been started? If you see the title of the MT4 window change to indicate “Tickstory Launcher” was successful, then your back-testing should yield you 99.9%.

I’m assuming that you are using Windows 7+?

    Thanks.

    Hi Greensaturn,

We’ve done a few extra checks and was wondering if you can try logging into the server at least once. Tickstory looks for the presence of certain directories and files (see here for more details: http://www.tickstory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=237). It seems that these directories have not been created yet which is why Tickstory is rejecting your folder selection.

Please let us know how you go.

    Hi Felipebr,

I believe you might be after the “UTC +2:00 E. Europe” (Eastern Europe) timezone which will be automatically shifted for daylight savings. If you want further information about when the DST shift occurs, select the timezone in the export window and then click the ‘i’ symbol which will give you detailed information regarding time-shifts.

Thanks also for your suggestion about saving settings. We have noted this one!

    Regards.

    Hi there,

You may get discrepancies between Birt’s Tick Data Suite and Tickstory if you are using variable vs fixed spread. If you are using a scalper, it may well be very sensitive to spread and therefore showing you favourable results when testing with say 1 pip fixed spread. You should try a few back-test variations to increase the fixed spread to see if your EA’s performance degrades.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Suffi,

Tickstory does not create the symbol name in MT4 – you need to use a symbol that already exists in your broker terminal. If DAX doesn’t exist, you will need to use another symbol available in MT4 as a suitable “proxy” instrument. You can read more about mapping a symbol such as DAX to another by referring to this post:

    viewtopic.php?f=4&t=435

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Moralproxy,

Not exactly sure what your question is here, however the base currency should be the base traded currency of the selected instrument/pair. In your example, EURCHF would have a base currency of EUR. In the case of GOLD, the base currency would be USD.

Hope this answers your question. If not, you may be able to find further information on the MT4 forums such as this one:

    Hi Coolio,

The data range and quality are provided as-is from Dukascopy and unfortunately we have no scope to change this. We have been made aware of a few anomalies in the data and the best we can do is provide some filtering capabilities which is on our list of things to do.

    Regards.

    Hi Coolio,

At the moment, no, it’s not possible to produce multiple exports from the same symbol. The best workaround I can think of is to have multiple instances of Tickstory running to export each time-frame. Make sure you have downloaded the data before-hand so there aren’t any conflicts during the export process. We”ll consider how to implement this in future versions.

    Thanks for your feedback.
