    Hi Niceperson,

If I understood correctly your MT4 broker does not have the symbol ‘USDSEK’. In this case, it is necessary to use another symbol that your MT4 broker does support so you can use it as a proxy for your USDSEK data. For example, you can export USDSEK data and “map it to” the GBPUSD symbol in MT4. Once you have done this, selecting GBPUSD in the strategy tester will actually use the USDSEK data you have exported.

You can find out more about the ‘Maps to’ feature in the manual or you can have a read of this post:

    viewtopic.php?f=4&t=435

With EURUSD, it seems you may be coming across a different issue which is that MT4 does not support large test ranges. That is, your FXT data file cannot be more than 4GB. You will need to adjust your exported date range to suit. You can refer to this post for further information on this topic:

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Temaxemo,

Thanks for the further screenshots. From what it appears, the filename being used is invalid due to its length and/or the use of special characters (such as ‘&’). You can override the filename that the EA is choosing by going to the Parameters and explictly specifying the ‘ConfigFilename’ to be something like “myserver”. If you continue to have issues, make sure you have the correct permissions to the target directory.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Temaxoma,

Unfortunately we were unable to determine your issue from the link provided (the AVI does not play for us). Is it possible to explain your issue with the help of Google translate?

    Thanks.

    Hi Rodrigo,

From your screenshots I assume that you are referring to the export of EURJPY. Given that you are trying to export a large range and the dates in MT4 look incorrect, it appears you are coming across the 4Gb FXT limitation (see here for more: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=462). As such, you will need to reduce the size of your export range and try again.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Mikhaly,

Unfortunately we don’t know why Forex Tester might freeze – I assume that you have contacted the vendor for assistance? If it’s a large file you are trying to import it could just be that it’s taking some time.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Triton – thanks for the further information – the screenshots were particularly helpful. It seems that your MT4 symbol name is “GBPUSDnospr” not “GBPUSD”. As such, you need to make sure you “Map to” this symbol name by setting the “Maps to” field to “GBPUSDnospr” when exporting. You will notice that there are HST & FXT files named “GBPUSDnospr” which is what MT4 is generating when it is back-testing. Once you have exported correctly, Tickstory will create these files. As for the GBPUSD30_0.fxt (etc) files, you can remove these if you like – MT4 will not be using these at all.

To find out more about using the “Maps To” feature, see this post:

    viewtopic.php?f=4&t=435&p=1919

The manual also describes this feature.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Triton,

Thanks for the further details. Regarding your question 4), the *.config file for your broker will reside in the testerfiles or MQL4Files depending on whether you have run the Tickstory EA on the chart or from the tester. As such, when loading the *.config file you will need to search for the file in these locations.

Regarding step 7), I am not sure what your screenshot is trying to show. If you are trying to use the data you exported, all you need to do is select the instrument that you exported (EURUSD, for example) and then begin the back-test. The final back-test report should show that you have got 99.9% modelling quality which will indicate that you have successfully tested with tick data.

    Hope this answers your questions.

    Sam123,

If you believe you have encountered a bug, provide the following details:

    – Symbol & dates of the range you have having problem with.
    – A screenshot of the chart you are seeing.
    – A description of what the issue is.
    – What you believe the result should have been.

Without these basic details you are unfortunately not providing any useful information for us to assist you.

    Thanks.

Hi Triton – thanks for the further details. From translating the errors you are getting, it seems that Tickstory cannot get the data from the web for some reason. Could you firstly do the following in Tickstory:

    1) Go to File->Settings
    2) In the Dukascopy Datasource tab, press the “Test” button. If your configuration and network is correct, you should get an “OK” message. If not, please let us know the error message you get. The “404” error message you gave means that the server could not find the given URL (http://www.dukascopy.com/datafeed/CADJPY/2014/05/05/22h_ticks.bi5), however when we click on it there is no such problem.

Make sure you only download one instrument at a time if you are having difficulty.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Triton,

Can you please post more detail about how it “doesnt work”? Are you getting an error when launching from Tickstory? What MT4 build are you using exactly?

Writegvf – could you kindly follow up your post in the mentioned thread as others may be able to assist. Please let us know also whether you also get the issue for the DAX as this should isolate the issue.

    Thanks.

    Hi Beepsi,

Thanks for the info. The method you describe to incorporate tick data into MT4 is essentially what Tickstory does with Forex data. We are definitely interested in getting Bitcoin data into the system, however for the moment Tickstory does not support the import of CSV file directly. This is one of the features we are currently working on for the next generation of Tickstory. We will also take note of the URLs you mentioned in the possibility of importing the data directly.

    Regards.

    Hi Writegvf,

Thanks for your feedback. If you are having any issues with MT4 reporting that it “cannot calculate prices”, then please check out this thread:

    Hi Matdust,

It’s unfortunate but many scalpers can be highly sensitive to real tick data, so higher quality back-testing is always a great indication of how your EA may perform in real conditions. Of course, there are still other factors such as spread, differing broker data, latency and so forth that can also affect the live results. As such, you should work towards finding the reason why there is such a discrepancy between your results and see whether any available EA parameters may stablise your results in various market conditions.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Matdust,

Great to hear it’s now working for you. The “Data Folder” in MT4 is automatically allocated to you on a per-installation basis unless you specify the “/portable” command-line argument, in which case it will use the MT4 installation folder. Using the ‘portable’ option is only recommended if you are running MT4 from a USB key or portable drive. If you do wish to do this, ensure you have configured the Tickstory launcher correctly by putting “/portable” (less the quotes) in the command-line argument specification (make sure you update your ‘Data Folder’ accordingly!)

    Regards.
