Hi Guy,

The data that Tickstory downloads is always tick granularity. You can attempt to download a specific date range using the “Download” function first and get “file not found” errors, this means the data is not available for this instrument for the requested date.

Hi Shani,

Make sure you have exported FXT files for every timeframe. You can double-check within the MT4 Data Folder and make sure that all the FXT files exist for the other time-frames and should be the same size as EURUSD60_0.fxt (i.e. the 60 minute/1 hr timeframe).

Hi Erict,

Could you kindly give some screenshots to detail the issue you are having? You mentioned that you created a folder called C:ProgramsMT4 – have you also installed Metatrader in this location? If you have, you should subsequently be able to select this as the “MT4 Installation” folder in the Tickstory setup (make sure you run MT4 at least once before trying to do this).

Hi Raffinoso,

Firstly, it’s very important that you use the launcher when attempting to back-test with Tickstory’s tick data. Without it, Metatrader will not correctly use the exported tick data and instead try to produce its own data set which will markedly differ from Tickstory.
Ensure you are firstly getting 99,9% modelling quality in your results. If you are not, you are performing one of the export steps incorrectly.

At the moment Tickstory only provides data that is sourced from Dukascopy which I don’t believe list this information. If you have a data-source that can provide this information, please let us know the details in the “Suggestions” forum.

Sounds like your broker is using “EST +07:00 hrs – New York Trading Hours” which at the top of the selection box. Click on the little ‘i’ to give you more detailed information about the time-zone including the GMT offset and when it transitions in and out of daylight savings just to be sure.

I suggest you compare a specific trade that your EA takes in both tick and open price mode and see why it differs. I imagine that there may be some differences in execution price depending on how the EA is written. Generally speaking, if the EA is trading on the next open bar, then you should at least see the trade taken at the same time in both modes (again, assuming there are no other variables in the EA).

Thanks for the further information. We can confirm that this is indeed an issue when exporting the ‘swap enable’ field. The issue will be addressed in the next release. Until then, the workaround is as you describe – you will need to edit the FXT information manually.

We’re trying to replicate the issue you are describing. Could you kindly open both the Tickstory FXT file and CSV2FXT FXT file in the Tickstory FXT editor and send a screenshot of each? We assume that the difference is due to some different settings between the two files. Also, could you please confirm that in both back-tests you are using only the Tickstory Launcher?

Thanks for the further information. What was your value of the “Swap enable” field on your MT4 Info parameters? When the value is zero, swap is disabled. When 1, swap is enabled.

As far we know, the MT4 strategy tester will apply the constant swap value you specify when you export. There are no historical swap rates since the MT4 back-tester does not support this.

That is correct.

2. If the new export doesn’t contain the old dates than this data will no longer be available for MT4?
That is correct – if you export again then only the date range you select will be available. The previous data will be overwritten.

3. If I exported the data from the past 2 years until last month and I want to add the data from last month I need to do an export again for the entire date range, correct?
That is correct for the moment. The next generation of Tickstory will be able to append to existing databases.

4. What is the “filter duplicate ticks” option for? why would I have duplicate ticks? Will the becktesting give me different results if this option was selected on export or not?
