    Hi Crane,

The spread is set in the process of “Exporting to MT4”. In the export dialog box, there is a tab called “MT4 Info” which allows you to specify all the parameters of the export including the spread. There is a detailed explanation in the Tickstory manual (press F1 within Tickstory or click here: http://tickstory.com/help/tickstorylite/) under the section “Customising MT4 export settings”.

If you are using the Metatrader FXT Editor to make changes to an existing data export, do the following in Tickstory:

    1) Select Metatrader FXT Editor in the menu.
    2) In the Editor, select “Open FXT”. In the folder menu, you should see a list of symbol data files that correspond to each of the exported time-frames. For example, EURUSD60_0.fxt represents the 60 minute time-frame of EURUSD, GBPUSD240_0.fxt represents the data for GBPUSD for the 4-hour time-frame and so forth. Select the data file that corresponds to the symbol and time-frame you wish to change the spread for. If you are working in multiple time-frames, you will need to repeat this process for each file/time-frame.
    3) In the ‘Spread’ field, change the value of the spread to suit your back-testing.
    4) Press the ‘Save’ button (ensure that MT4 is not running as it could prevent the file from being updated).
    5) Press F8 in Tickstory launch MT4 and commence your back-testing.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Alasdeauguila – have you downloaded an MT4 from one of these brokers that use cent accounts and tried back-testing with that?

    Thanks.

    Hi Kkaushal,

Thanks for the kind feedback and also spreading the word! In regards to your questions, Tickstory will not be charging to provide the market data. The current Forex data is provided free by Dukascopy and we are merely looking to make this and other such quality data sources easily available to our users.

That said, we do need to pay the bills and we are currently developing a paid-for version of Tickstory (that is offered alongside the free version). The paid-for version will offer additional utilities for professional traders (such as gap analysis & cleansing, data export to various formats, etc) to allow professionals to manage their back-testing data-sets.

We look forward to your continued support and please feel free to make any suggestions for additional features!

    Regards.

    Hi MrMedia,

The 4GB limitation relates to the FXT files which are used only during the back-test phase. All visual charts etc should be unaffected.
When back-testing with greater than 4GB files, you will typically receive some sort of an error and an early termination of the back-test. The back-test seems to work on first 4GB of data although other “odd” behaviour is possible so it is highly recommended not to back-test under this scenario.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Kkaushal,

Tickstory is typically used to produce an offline version of MT4 data for back-testing purposes. Outside of this realm, it is difficult to make any suggestions (or troubleshoot) what might work for your situation now and in the future. In theory, MT4 should merely append to the existing historical data which means your EAs should work but there could be exceptions. I would suggest that you try it out and see how works for you and let us know how you go – other users may be able to pitch in with their own experience and any caveats they have come across.

    Regards.

    Hi Samson,

This error is caused by Windows denying access to Tickstory to store data in the designated “data store” folder. You will need to change the location where you store tick data by specifying a writable folder in File->Settings within Tickstory. See these threads for more information:

    Hi NiceFox,

This is a feature we intend to provide, however for the time being we unfortunately don’t have a firm time-frame. We will instead keep users up-to-date via this forum and also via Facebook. If you have ‘liked’ us on Facebook, you should see additional updates as they become available.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi MrMedia,

MT4 does not natively support the use of tick data. By launching MT4 via Tickstory, it provides a “tweak” which uses the tick data correctly. Without this tweak (i.e. if you try launch MT4 without Tickstory), MT4 will attempt to create its own, less accurate data-set.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi MrMedia,

We are looking at introducing a feature to add new symbols to MT4 in such a manner. For the moment, you are correct – the best way to achieve this is to use a symbol that you do not use.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Modydiab,

The image you posted is rather small so cannot be easily viewed. It looks like you are getting an error asking you to register a copy of Birt’s Tick Data Suite that you have installed. You can solve this by either:

    1) Purchasing Birt’s TDS here: http://cd710nh5qn5ax84ol4ncpnfp99.hop.clickbank.net/ Disclosure: Affiliate link. Note that this is a third-party utility and support can be obtained from the vendor.

    2) Remove (or move) the TDS.EXE file that is located in the MT4 installation directory. This will allow Tickstory to use its own launcher to start and allow MT4 back-testing.

    Hope this helps.

in reply to: Optimisation runs #19278

    Hi Ekke,

Unfortunately all we can offer is a few trouble-shooting suggestions such as checking MT4 vital signs (CPU, memory) while performing the optimisation run. Perhaps the system is running out of resources or the EA is hanging in certain circumstances? Try a simple EA and getting that working first and then introduce optimisation for your EA while only incrementing 1 or 2 parameters at a time and seeing how far you can automate things before it no longer works.

Hopefully some other users may be able to share some experiences with you on how to resolve this.

    Regards.

    Hi Shani,

If you are getting N/A modelling quality, it usually indicates that you
    1) Never launched MT4 via Tickstory and/or
    2) Didn’t generate the FXT for that particular time-frame.

You can trouble-shoot this by checking that the relevant FXT file exists immediately after exporting it via Tickstory. Ensure it is the appropriate size & is marked as ‘read only’. Then, launch MT4 via Tickstory and attempt your back-test. You should hopefully see no changes to the FXT file and get 99.9% modelling quality on your back-test.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Jehan,

This is possible depending on what parameters the EA uses in its trading logic.
