in reply to: MT4 Data Editor FXT overwritten #19464
Hi Geektrader,
You’ll have to give more information about the “error” you are getting. I am not aware of any issue that would cause the back-test not to work. Is Birt also assisting you with your problem?
Thanks.
in reply to: Problem in settings #19451Hi Ticktroll,
It doesn’t appear that you are using the data you have exported from Tickstory. Make sure you have selected the correct “MT4 Server” in your Tickstory settings – if you have two separate servers it is possible that you have downloaded to the incorrect one. In MT4, you can check the historical data that it is currently using by going to the Tools->History Center. Make sure that the symbol and corresponding dates you have exported match up. If they don’t, you have exported to the incorrect location. Also, make sure you have launched MT4 via the Tickstory laucher (press F8 in Tickstory), otherwise MT4 will not correctly use your data.
Regards.
Hi Rp75 – I’m not sure what you’re trying to do since there is no instruction to copy/paste data. Could you please follow the steps outlined in the quick-start video to make sure you get a correct back-test first:

Thanks.
in reply to: MT4 Data Editor FXT overwritten #19462Hi Geektrader,
It sounds like the launcher has not been applied to MT4. Please check that you are running the launcher on the same MT4 installation as the files you are editing.
Thanks.
in reply to: data storage and use from external HD #19434Hi Gabriele,
The MT4 installation directory is where you have installed your Metatrader. It is the folder you select when going to Tickstory File->Settings->MT4 Settings. If you are wanting to move this directory to your external HDD then you should be able to, however this may depend on your Metatrader version. Metatrader should automatically look for the FXT and HST files based on the directory from which the application is launched.
Regards.
Hi Geektrader,
Thanks for your feedback. Our main focus is developing the database capabilities of Tickstory, so it deviates a bit to be looking into how to improve MT4. Perhaps if you ask this question on an MT4 forum someone may be able to assist? It could also be an enhancement that Birt would consider with his Tick Data Suite: http://eareview.net/tick-data-suite?hop=referrer9
Hope this helps.
in reply to: No official support is available! #19461Hi Atrm63,
This notification is for informational purposes only and does not affect the behaviour of the launcher. If you are able to press the Strategy Tester ‘Test’ button and get 99.9% in your back-test, the launcher has done it’s job (sometimes the title bar is updated by MT4 which means you don’t always see the Tickstory launcher information).
Hope this helps.
Hi Tcferreira,
Please refer to the suggestions the post – moving directory is one of the options to resolve the error.
Re: TDS, if you have the purchased this already, then you should be good to go!
Regards.
in reply to: Problem in settings #19449Hi Tickroll,
Please refer to this post to help you resolve the issue:
Thanks.
Hi Tcferreira,
The “invalid location” error is discussed here:
Just to temper your expectations, the feature to allow multiple instances on the same MT4 installation is not imminent. Of course, if you need it now, Tickstory does support Birt’s Tick Data Suite: http://eareview.net/tick-data-suite?hop=referrer9
Regards.
in reply to: Help exporting data to MT4 #19428Good to hear, rp75 – thanks for letting us know!
in reply to: Tick saver to CSV #19460Hi Jarl,
There is no such information that is provided by MT4. The “volume” in MT4 is actually the number of ticks that occurred in the bar. More discussion on this topic can be found here:
Hope this helps.
in reply to: data storage and use from external HD #19432Hi Gabriele,
I’m not sure we have identified the original issue that you mention from the post:
If you are still trying to resolve this issue, then appreciate if you could follow up on this post.
But to answer your questions as best as possible:
1) is it possible to download new data directly to the external hard drive, instead of using the default route to the pc hard drive?
There are two types of data that Tickstory writes to your system and I’m not sure which one you are referring to, so let’s answer it for both cases.
1) Dukascopy data: This is downloaded to the location you nominate in the File->Settings->Dukascopy store location folder. You should have no issues specifying an external HDD.
2) The MT4 export: This is downloaded to your MT4 folder location. If you have selected an MT4 installation folder on your external HDD via File->Settings->MT4 Installation then again, there should be no issue.2) once the data is stored on the external hard drive, what needs to be done to make sure that MT4 to uses the data stored on the external hard drive?
First point is obviously make sure your external HDD is accessible and unmounted in a proper manner, otherwise you are likely to lose data.
For Tickstory to use the Dukascopy data, nothing special needs to be done.
For MT4, as previously mentioned, make sure your FXT files are marked as read-only.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: Tick saver to CSV #19458Hi Jarl,
The script you are referring to doesn’t give you “complete” tick data – it is effectively giving you the closing price of a 1-minute bar on every tick. The data that the Tickstory “tick export” provides includes more granular information such as the bid and ask price at that particular time (and therefore the spread). It also includes the volume on the bid and offer at the time of that tick.
If you wish to approximate the format that is represented in the script, you can use the following output format to construct the Open, High, Low & Close of a tick “bar”:
{Timestamp:yyyyMMdd} {Timestamp:HH:mm:ss},{BidPrice},{BidPrice},{BidPrice},{BidPrice},{BidVolume}
All the bars will be flat OHLC candles.
Hope this helps.
