Hi Traderjoe – thanks for letting us know. Yes, Windows 8 does not permit an application to write data to the Program Files directory structure without administration permissions.

    Regards.

Hi Pipnotic – thanks for your keen eye and taking the time to log the issue.

We’ve looked at the issue and see that this affects only the sample record shown in the Export screen. That is, the Ask & Bid price in the sample record is 1.24431 and 1.24433, respectively. We will correct this in the next version. Meanwhile, the Ask & Bid prices that are actually exported to file should all be correct and as you expect.

    Kind regards.

    Hi Traderjoe,

Did you follow the post given above? It should help you as the issue is related to a change made in v1.1 to reduce the permissions that Tickstory requested on start-up.

    Thanks.

    Hi Adeller,

More precisely, it will check for the existence of MT4Installationhistorysymbol.sel. Please enture the directory structure also includes the server name directory structure.

Hi Tickroll – the EA being greyed-out is not a problem – see here for more: http://forum.mql4.com/37975

Please run the EA in the strategy tester and check the Journal tab to see if the EA is correctly running or if it is generating an error.

    Thanks.

    Hi Gabriele,

As per the last post, when you export a date range it is not cumulative – it is an absolute date range. The ‘overwrite’ option is there only to prevent you from inadvertently overwriting an existing file that you may have wished to keep.

    Regards.

    Hi Gabriele,

MT4 will only work if the entire directory structure is copied over to your external HDD. That is, if your MT4 installation is currently in C:Program FilesMetatrader then you will need to move the entire structure over to your HDD so it appears as (for example) G:Metatrader. Of course, all your Start Menu links will need to be changed if you are going to move the folder over in this way. The other option is to install a new copy of MT4 on your external HDD (G:Metatrader in this example).

Underneath the G:Metatrader folder will be all the usual folders including “experts”, “tester” and so forth – including all your HST and FXT files. MT4 will find the data simply by looking for the folders & data underneath the directory structure from which the application was launched.

Regarding your issue, it’s not entirely clear what data you are “downloading”. Are you talking about exporting this information to MT4? If so, when you export a certain date range, this creates a file only for that date range. If you create another export in the same MT4 installation for a different date range, it will overwrite your last export with the new date range you have specified.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Hansberger.

Thanks for your question. Perhaps you can tell us more about your e-book? As a general rule, please feel free to use screenshots of the application but please make sure that your readers are aware that it not “official” documentation from Tickstory. This will avoid any confusion and potential questions from users should the information be obsolesced at some stage.

Look forward to hearing more from you!

    Kind regards.

    Hi Braunkf,

The problem is more than likely due to some network issue on your side such as not being connected to the internet. To check your connection:

    – Go to File->Settings->Dukascopy Datasource and press the ‘Test’ button.

If you get an error, you need to resolve the issue with your network first.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Braunkf,

Could you please give the exact error message you are getting and preferably a screenshot?

    Thanks.

Good to hear, Tickroll. Re: your questions:

    1) Tickstory only exports tick data. If you wish to use open prices, then you don’t need to go through all this procedure and simply use the data your broker gives you.
    2) You can execute it in the Strategy tester.
    3) We are changing this procedure in the revamp of Tickstory so you wont need to specify these details each time.

    Regards.

Hi Tickroll – this is the problem by the sounds. You need to export the symbol as it appears in your MT4 terminal. So if, for example, your MT4 uses the symbol “GOLD”, should:

    – In Tickstory, select XAUUSD and the date range (see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=155 for information about the available date ranges).
    – In the MT4 Settings for XAUUSD, set the “Maps to” field to GOLD.
    – Wait for the export to complete and then perform the usual steps to commence back-testing (Launch MT4 via Tickstory, etc).

    Hope this helps.
