in reply to: Spread doesnt get drawn #19487
Hi Oneandonly,
In order to simplify the example, assume that you are trading EURUSD and the bid price is 1.3510. If your spread is 2 pips, your ask price is going to be 1.3530. This means that if you put on a buy market order, you are executed at the ask price. If you are entering a sell order, the spread will not apply and you will be executed at 1.3510.
Hope this helps.
Hi Evveric,
Thanks for your post. In answer to your questions:
1) I can see from your export that you are exporting 1-minute data yet you are trying to print out values for tick data. This doesn’t work – if you select a bar format, you can only use field pertaining to the bar – Open, High, Low, Close, etc. The other tick-based tokens such as ‘AskVolume’ will not give the correct values unless you’re exporting ticks (and similarly if you are exporting ticks, the bar-based fields will not have the correct values).
2) Yes, daylight savings is supported for the NY timezone as indicated on the export screen. The NY time-zone is essentially a copy of the “Eastern Standard Time” time-zone and with a 2-hour shift from UTC.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: Tester: wrong bars count 0 #19503Hi Magi,
Doesn’t sound like the files you exported are being used correctly. Ensure you have exported the correct symbol name as it appears in your MT4 terminal.
If this doesn’t work you will need to give some more details of what you are doing so we can help.
Thanks.
in reply to: Error from Tickstory Launcher #19498Hi Fran,
Yes, for the moment the F8 button only launches the one MT4 terminal you have configured in your settings.
Regards.
in reply to: Tickdata around DST-shift ?? #19494Hi Gooly,
From the thread you mentioned, it looks like you got your answer?
To answer your other question, you should be able to use tick-based FXT files generated by other applications with the Tickstory launcher.
Regards.
Hi Jdaniele,
Thanks for logging a problem report. We’ve reproduced the issue and it appears related to the fact you are not exporting at least one FXT time-frame. The workaround for the moment is to ensure at least 1 FXT time-frame is selected. We will work on addressing the issue in the next version.
Kind regards.
in reply to: Downloading and downloading and downloading ….. #19499Hi Postiveday,
Thanks for your feedback. Tickstory does store the downloaded tick data on your hard-drive and does not re-download it from the web unless it is unavailable. You can find further information about this behaviour in the user manual or and on this post: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22
Regarding translations, we are endeavouring to improve them whenever possible. We will note your feedback and perhaps have a language preference setting in a future version.
Regards.
in reply to: Error from Tickstory Launcher #19496Hi Fran,
From what I understand of your post, the launcher works sometimes for you and sometimes presents an error message? If this is the case, we have seen this on odd occasion when your machine has too many applications running. Usually if you try launching again it fixes the problem.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: Allow folder selection for file export #19502Hi Gooly,
You can specify the path manually – there is not folder selection button at the moment but we can note this. FYI we will move this part of the thread to the ‘suggestions’ section.
Thanks!
in reply to: Backtesting in H1 Tickstory Data #19495Hi Jockeys,
Thanks for your feedback and letting us know how much use you’re getting out of Tickstory.
With regards to your question, there are no specific optimisations done in the export of H4 data as the aim is to have the most accurate information go into the exports. There have been reports that the back-tester is faster when you suppress Volume data which Tickstory does by default. If you have filtered duplicate ticks, this could also improve the back-test speed.
With regard to your comparisons with back-test vs forward-test, I would highly recommend that (as best as possible) you use your broker’s data to cross-check your trades/strategy to ensure it matches up with what you expect. After confirming this, it will be necessary to see whether the Dukascopy data is perhaps offering you more favourable conditions for your strategy than that of your current broker.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: Spread doesnt get drawn #19484Hi Oneandonly – Not entirely sure what you mean by “drawn” – the spread is only relevant when calculating the current Ask price or when your EA wants to know the current spread. The Ask price is calculated by the MT4 strategy tester as “Bid price plus spread”.
Regarding commissions, please refer to this post to find out how to set the values:
Thanks.
in reply to: Allow folder selection for file export #19500Hi Gooly – not sure what you mean. The folder location of where the file will be written is already displayed.
Thanks.
in reply to: MT4 Data Editor FXT overwritten #19466Hi Geektrader,
Thanks for giving the further detail – it helps alot. It appears step 3) is the problem here. The Tickstory is intended to allow you to produce back-tests with tick data which means you need to select the “Every tick” model when doing your back-test. It seems you are selecting the “Open prices” model which generates the EURUSD5_2.fxt (instead of EURUSD5_0.fxt which contains tick data).
I believe if you edit the EURUSD5_0.fxt and select the ‘Every tick’ model you will solve the issue.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: error downloading #19483Hi Christian,
Could you please describe the exact steps you are taking to get this problem? This error is typically caused by a corrupt/incorrect Microsoft .NET installation.
Thanks.
in reply to: Access denied error upgrading from v1.0 to v1.1 #19409As another user has reported, if you are exporting to a Metatrader installation that resides in the C:Program Files directory, you must either move the installation to a different location or run Tickstory as an administrator to give it sufficient access rights to write to this directory.
Thanks.
