in reply to: Data gaps and bad ticks – error source? #20458
Hi Haeggor,
Tickstory utilises the Dukascopy as-is without making any changes to the data (although it does construct bars from the tick data). We did a check with some of the data points you mentioned on the EURRUB. In this case, there do appear to be gaps in the originating data from Dukascopy. These gaps are shown in the Tickstory charts if you zoom in on the period. We also cross-checked that these gaps were actually in the raw data from Dukascopy. In the case of a gap between July-August 2014, you can browse to Dukascopy store location to view the “raw” data:
(Dukascopy Store Location)EURRUB201476
Note there are zero-sized data files indicating there was no data for this period. We have downloaded the data outside of Tickstory and confirmed that Dukascopy is delivering these zero-sized files.
I can only assume that these gaps are due to times where the exchange was illiquid or not trading for some reason.
If you want to cross-check any other data you can do so by downloading the Dukascopy JForex platform. Suffice to say that we are unaware of any Tickstory bugs that would be causing these gap & spike issues.
Do note that in future versions of Tickstory we will be offering an analysis feature to highlight these gaps and also smooth any anomalous spikes.Hope this helps.
in reply to: Updating MT4 export #20463Hi Hylocharis,
For the moment you will need to re-generate the entire MT4 export for 2012-2014 again. We are working on a feature in the next major upgrade which will allow you to simply extend the existing export.
Regards.
in reply to: Problem when exporting data to MT4 #19735Hi Swordfish,
The Youtube demonstration was made on Windows XP. Windows 8.1 is unfortunately slightly different in that it does not permit files to be written to the “Program Files” directory without Administrator permissions.
To solve your issue, please follow these steps:
1) Go to Tickstory File->Settings->Dukascopy Datasource (i.e. the same setting as your screenshot)
2) Click the ‘Store location‘ ‘Folder‘ button so the folder selection box appears.
3) Choose the “Documents” folder from the selection box.
4) Create a new folder called “Data”, ensure it is selected and then press OK. Your new store location should now look something like C:UsersYourNameDocumentsData.
5) Try downloading data again. You should receive no more errors. Please let us know how you go.
in reply to: Launch Issue Build 670 (solved / solution) #20319Hi DMFX,
Please refer to the following post to see how Tickstory determines whether the folder you selected is a ‘valid’ MT4 location:

in reply to: Data Download error – How to fix? #20456Hi Ticker,
This error usually occurs when there is some fault with your internet connection (eg. disconnection, too many simultaneous requests, etc). Just make sure your settings are correct by firstly going to File->Settings and ‘Test’ your Dukascopy settings. If all is ok, the next step is to use the ‘Download’ function to re-check all the existing data in your local database. The system will go through the specified date range again and only download the data that may be missing. If you still receive errors, please review them and again ensure your internet connection is working before repeating the above.
Regards.
in reply to: Data Validation Routine #20455Hi Sryoung,
Thanks for the suggestion. We should be tackling this two-fold in the later versions. Firstly, we will most likely stop the download process on encountering any error. Secondly, we will be providing a gap analysis function that should highlight data gaps similar to the way your program is doing.
For the moment, I would highly recommend the use of the “Download” feature to re-check and re-download missing information where necessary. You can make this feature can go through your entire date range and it will only download information that is missing or corrupted. Of course, you should ensure no errors are generated during the operation as it indicates some problem during the download process. Note also that whenever you attempt an export, the same verification & repair process is applied.
Regards.
in reply to: Commission query #20453Hi Leeb,
Regarding your questions:
1) If you are referring to the issue of Commission Type not being exported correctly, this was addressed in v1.4 (TICKLITE-144).
2) When specifying pips, you need to account for whether the symbol has an extra fractional digit. If so, you need to multiply the pip value by 10. So, if for example you have EURUSD on a 4 digit broker, then you express it simply as 0.35. If it is a 5-digit broker, then you need to specify 3.5.Regards.
in reply to: Tickstory and commission #19869Hi Montorog,
Apologies for the delayed notification – as you may be aware by now, the issue with commission type was addressed shortly after you reported it and was released as part of v1.4. With regards to Margin Currency, unfortunately MT4 does not provide this information via MQL so it needs to be entered manually.
Kind regards.
Hi John,
Thanks for the info. We are intending to add Yahoo as a data provider – will this provide you with the information you need for NIFTY (eg. https://in.finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=%5ENSEI) or does Google provide you with something different?
Thanks.
in reply to: TickstoryInfoExpert bug #20448Hi Polnoxi,
We have checked the EA code for the export of these values and cannot see any issue – the Swap Long and Short are obtained from MarketInfo(querySymbol,MODE_SWAPLONG);
and
MarketInfo(querySymbol,MODE_SWAPSHORT);
respectively. You can cross-check to see if these values correspond to what the MT4 terminal has by right-clicking in the Market Watch window, selecting ‘Symbols’ and then looking at the Properties/Contract Specification for the symbol.
Thanks.
in reply to: Problem when exporting data to MT4 #19733Hi Swordfish,
If you are sure you have correctly invoked Tickstory from a folder other than “Program Files” (check your short-cut just in case), then also check your Dukascopy store folder setting to ensure it isn’t pointing to this location. In Tickstory, go to File->Settings and change the ‘Dukascopy store folder’ location to somewhere where you have permission to write (such as the Documents folder).
Hope this helps.
in reply to: export and then? #20444Hi BeFe,
To export the DEUIDXEUR data as your MT4 symbol ‘GER30’, you will need to specify “GER30” in your “Maps To” field when exporting from Tickstory. Refer to the following link for more discussion on this topic and also refer to the Tickstory manual for more information: http://www.tickstory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=435
Regards.
in reply to: Errors launching MT4 #20426Hi DMFX,
What Build is your MT4? Can you try pressing the F8 (Launch) key again after MT4 has started and see if this resolves your issue?
Thanks.
