in reply to: CSV File Export #21202

    Hi Kirchberg,

Your error message translates to “access to the path denied”. This means you have specified an export location which Windows will not let you write to. As mentioned above, make sure you have specified a full pathname that you have access to such as the “Documents” folder (eg. c:users(youusername)documentsEURUSD.csv).

    Thanks.

    Hi RayShen,

Could you please confirm that you have gone to File->Settings in Tickstory and set your MT4 Installation directory in the MT4 Settings tab? The Installation directory should be something like “C:Program Files (x86)Metatrader” and once you select this, the Data Folder specification will automatically be set.

    Thanks.

    Hi Fnag,

Of course we would keep the EA code confidential, however you are welcome to send a scaled down version that specifically produces the issue (in fact, we’d prefer it). You should have PM access to send us information directly.

Re: “fresh installation” – I was hoping that you had a list of steps that would reproduce the problem consistently. In your last post you were suggesting that the error was occurring intermittently. If this is the case, then it may be difficult to identify the issue.

Re: You using Build 840, I was initially under the impression that this was only occurring in Builds 880 and above. Curious as to why other users were not experiencing it earlier.

    Thanks.

    Hi Trader55,

Glad to hear it’s working. Re: extending support, we will always bid to support licensed users at least for a month, regardless of when they have registered.

    Thanks for signing up 😉

    Hi Fnag,

Thanks for the further info, however it’s still not clear how to reproduce the issue consistently. It does sound like a the EA is dependent on some sort of parameter used to calculate the volume or that some MT4 setting is “missing” when the terminal is offline.

Are you able to provide the exact details of how to reproduce the issue from a fresh terminal installation? We’d also need the EA code you are using – preferrably a very simple one that just has a few lines with the “OrderSend” and nothing else.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

    Hi Vohanh,

Your screenshot shows you have Tickstory running correctly so there is no problem with your .NET installation. The error you are getting is referred to in the FAQ as follows:

    Q. I am getting the error “Access to the path denied” when exporting.
    A. This is caused by Windows denying Tickstory access to the folder where it needs to store its downloaded tick data. To resolve this, go to File->Settings and specify a “Dukascopy Store Folder” that has general write permissions. For example, create a folder called “Tickdata” in your Documents and then specify C:UserDocumentsTickdata as the storage folder location.

    Hope this resolves the issue.

    Hi Mickaswah,

Please check out our video on exporting CSV data and let us know if this helps:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlGoGvshKZw

Make sure you are specifying a full pathname (eg. c:userstickstorydocumentsEURUSD.csv) and the text-based file will exist in this location.

    Hi Infasc,

Thanks for your feedback. Re: your points:

    1. Yes, apologies this was a typo and has been corrected in the FAQ.

    2. The location actually depends on whether you are running in “portable” mode or not which is why we’ve tried to make relative pathname references in the Quick Help tab.

    3. We’ve put the mt4config extension on the todo list, however we are in the process of trying to simplify the process of acquiring MT4 settings which hopefully will remove the need for these configs.

    4. The “Experts” tab provides a log of activity and information when the process is complete.

    5. Unfortunately there is no MQL command to acquire the commission information which means this needs to be entered manually.

    6. We’ve tried to reproduce the issue with your information, however could not find anything wrong. Perhaps it’s possible there was something incorrect with your export dates? If you’re continuing to have issues, please let us know the steps you’re taking and we’ll look into it.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

    Hi Pipperoni,

The “MT4 Settings” dialog effectively describes information about the symbol – that is, the instrument specifications/properties. It does not directly relate to your EA settings.
Since this information is available only via MQL, the TickstoryExpert is used to extract these settings for core symbols. Unfortunately it does not currently try to query other broker-specific symbol names such as “GER30”.

In this case, what you could try is the following as a workaround:

    1) Close your MT4 terminal if it’s open and restart it manually (i.e. without Tickstory).
    2) In the Strategy Tester, select the GER30 symbol and select any EA for backtesting in the 1 hour timeframe in the every-tick model (NOTE: the timeframe and model is only relevant for the purposes of selecting the correct file in the following steps).
    3) In Tickstory, start the FXT Editor and open the file GER3060_0.fxt (which is the FXT file which would have been just generated in your back-test). The FXT file will contain the symbol information from the broker. Note all the settings that are listed (take a screenshot).
    4) In Tickstory, select DEUIDXEUR for Export to MT4 and then the select the MT4 Settings tab.
    5) Put all the symbol settings from your screenshot in the corresponding fields.
    6) You can then “Save As Default” to save these settings permanently so you don’t need to do this again.

For your convenience, I have performed steps 1-3 for you on the FXCM terminal and the attached screenshot shows the results.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi fx-strategie,

We’ve tried it with the XM terminal and the only way we could get a “zero divide” error is if there was no symbol selected when using the Strategy Tester and trying to run TickstoryExpertEA. Is this the case? Can you try attaching it to a chart?

    Thanks.

    Hi Odeduchenko,

v1.7 has been tested up to the latest Build 890 (including Build 880) back-testing is working fine. Some users have reported issues with Error 131s on Build 880 (see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=799), however we’re expecting that MT4 will resolve it if in-fact it is an issue.

    Regards.

We are currently downloading the XM terminal so we can look into this for you and will get back to you shortly.

    Hi Infasc,

We’ve tested the launcher and TickstoryInfoExpert on Build 890 and have had no issues.

Regarding the mt4config file, we’ve updated the FAQ with the following information:

    Q. Why isn’t TickstoryExpertEA generating config file?
    A. Firstly, check you are checking the correct location. In MT4, go to File->Open Data Folder and then browse to the /MQL4/Files folder. A file should exist with a *.mt4config extension.
If it does not, check the ‘Experts’ tab to see if any errors are being generated. This problem is sometimes caused by an invalid filename being generated (since it utilises your broker’s name). You can force a valid filename by going to the EA’s ‘ConfigFileName’ parameter to “Broker.mt4config”.

Please let us know if that resolves your issue.

    Thanks.
