in reply to: 0.8 – not finding MT4 installations #18677
Hi Quicksilver,
Many thanks for listing the detailed steps you are taking. Before you start up Tickstory and select the installation directory, could you please start up Metatrader at least once. The first run of Metatrader creates the necessary files for Tickstory to recognise it as a valid installation (i.e. it checks the ‘history’ directory for the various servers that are available).
Hope this helps.
in reply to: 0.8 – readonly and fxt overwrite #18663Hi p4spares,
The ‘read-only’ FXT file option has been tested on Windows 7 and the files are being correctly flagged. Will need some further information about what you are checking to get your result
With regard to the launcher, there seems to be an issue with some Windows 7 users having problems. Further investigation will be required. If v0.7 works fine for you, you may need to revert back. Note there have been no changes to the launcher between 0.7 and 0.8, so the issue seems specific to Windows 7.
Will let you know when there is further information on this.
Regards
in reply to: I just want HST not tick data #18661Hi John,
We will put this on the list of possible enhancements to only generate HST files.
For the monthly data, Tickstory does produce the MT4 HST files for the monthly time-frame however you will notice that MT4 does not support back-testing for > Daily time frame so no FXTs are generated. If you are referring to the File export facility, then it does not currently support monthly time-frame. A note has been added to support this in the future. As an interim workaround you could simply export the data from the MT4 history center.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: HST File Generation question (was: Performance) #18660Hi John – the system generates all time-frames in a single pass. All time-frames are generated from tick-resolution data.
Regards.
in reply to: Speed of file generation (was: Performance) #18662Hi John,
The overhead is not in the file check but in the data unpacking and file generation – just remember that if you are generating a one year database across all time frames, this can be over 10gb. All exports are generated from the original tick data.
With this said, there is still room for optimisation and this will be added in later versions of Tickstory.Regards.
in reply to: v0.8 Released! #18652For those using v0.8RC, the following changes have been made for the official v0.8 release:
•[TICKLITE-60] MT4 Export: Fixed issue with ‘invalid file’ error on backtest.
•[TICKLITE-74] MT4 Export: Allow suppression of volume information when generating export.
•[TICKLITE-86] MT4 Export: Allows overwrite protection of FXT files by making them read-only.
•[TICKLITE-89] MT4 Export: Volume can never be zero (to resolve issue TICKLITE-60). Zero volume bars will be set to 1.Upgrading to the official release is highly recommended.
Hi stu,
A volume suppression option has been added to v0.8:
•[TICKLITE-74] MT4 Export: Allow suppression of volume information when generating export.
It is enabled by default and will result in all volumes being set to 1.
Be interested to know if you have any further statistics on any improved back-test times.Regards.
This has now been implemented as part of v0.8.
in reply to: v0.8 Release Candidate available #18614Hi Radu – the “file write” protection has been added to v0.8 just out.
Kind regards.
Please see this post for addressing the ‘invalid file’ issue:

in reply to: Export in 4H, 30M time frames #18509Hi jfroth,
This has been implemented in v0.8:
•[TICKLITE-62] File export: Added 30 minute, 4-hour and 12-hour export time-frames.
Regards.
in reply to: Invalid file error (was: About the FXT problem) #18564Hi all,
Thanks for your assistance to trouble-shoot this issue. We’ve managed to reproduce the issue which was due to MT4 not liking zero volume bars. To help address the issue there have been two items added to the system:
•[TICKLITE-89] MT4 Export: Volume can never be zero (to resolve issue TICKLITE-60). Zero volume bars will be set to 1.
•[TICKLITE-74] MT4 Export: Allow suppression of volume information when generating export.Users can now select to either suppress volume information altogether (default) or have it output volume that will never be zero.
Would be good to hear from all who were having the issue to ensure it resolves their problem.
Thanks.
in reply to: MANUAL, PLEASE #18412Hi tcferreira,
Can you try this link to see if it works for you:
Thanks.
in reply to: Invalid file error (was: About the FXT problem) #18563Hi jupp76,
Thanks for the information – could you please let us know the date range you have exported for both symbols. Does it stop on exactly the same date for GBPJPY?
The issue is actively being investigated and will let you know when there is an update.Regards.
in reply to: importig csv #18644Hi robfx,
You can import CSVs into MT4 using the standard predefined bar format for your export:
{BarBeginTime:yyyyMMdd},{BarBeginTime:HH:mm:ss},{Open},{High},{Low},{Close},{Volume}Of course, you can only import bar data into the history center – not tick data. If you are ok with merely using the historical bar data from MT4, you should not need to launch MT4 with the Tickstory launcher. The Tickstory launcher is specifically for users that would like to generate tick-accurate back-tests.
The ‘Weekend data’ option is only available on the MT4 Data export for the time being. There is a check-box under the date selection range which allows you to include exclude (default) weekend data.
Hope this helps.
