    Hi Mandelmus,

Thanks for your suggestions. In response to the items you mentioned:

    – Saving the last settings used is on the list of things to do.
    – Regarding the Metatrader Info, if you save your settings as “Default” it will automatically use these settings each time you export.
    – The symbol selection is being reworked so we’ll take this into consideration with the design.
    – The earliest date is intended to represent the earliest date you have downloaded. There may be additional analysis features in a later version, however specifically for analysing the data rather than what has been download.
Incidentally, it would take the same amount of time to check for the data gaps as to download the whole range again since it would be exactly the same process of checking what data exists on disk.

    Regards.

    Hi Mandelmus,

This feature is not available in the current version. In the “revamped” version you will be able to do this (i.e. you will add each symbol that you are interested in).

Thanks for the suggestion. The message has been clarified and will be effective in the next version.

    Hi allyfx,

Just to temper your expectations, the initial version of the charts will be very rudimentary with the intent on allowing users to inspect the underlying data before exporting. Renko charts aren’t going to be available, however I’m not sure whether you can already do what you need by exporting to MT4?

    Hi allyfx,

Thanks for your feedback. The charting feature should be available very soon – in the next version or the one after. Is there a specific feature that you are looking for in the charts or merely to view the data?

    Regards.

    Hi Kong_28,

Can you please check the following:

    – That you are using the latest version of Tickstory (currently v0.8)
    – That when you generate your MT4 export, you select the option ‘Make FXT files read-only’.
    – That you are launching MT4 with Tickstory at all times.

If you follow these steps, you should never have a situation where your FXT files are being over-written. If for some reason the launcher does not work correctly, the MT4 back-tester will report an error however your FXT will remain untouched and you should not need to regenerate it.

Please let us know how you go.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jack,

I am not aware of any “corrections” to the Dukascopy data. The change from the .bin to .bi5 format was to make use of the best compression and reduce data sizes/bandwidth usage. The tick data itself should be unchanged.
If for some reason you want to re-download the data from Dukascopy, you can delete the appropriate range of dates in your data store location and Tickstory will automatically back-fill the missing data.
For the sake of efficiency and bandwidth, Tickstory will not attempt to retrieve data from the remote servers if there is valid data that resides on your disk.

    Regards.

in reply to: Metatrader Info #18649

    Hi tcferreira,

Please read the topic “Customising MT4 export settings” for information on the Metatrader Info tab.
The content of the ‘Company’ and ‘Server’ fields are arbitrary and do not affect your back-test results.
The spread field should be set to an “average” amount or whatever is appropriate to get a good idea of how your EA will perform under various spreads/trading times.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi tcferreira,

Thanks for elaborating further. There are no immediate plans to integrate with this product.

No problem. If your EA is not dependent on it, you can filter out duplicate ticks which will make the file notably smaller and might extend the range you can test.

    Hi Kong_28,

The issue with the launcher is being investigated under Windows 7 (see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=142). When you say it works the “first time” – when is this? After a reboot? After closing down Tickstory? How do you get it to work again?

    Thanks.

    Hi Jarora,

Is your resulting FXT greater than 2GB? If so, it will only utilise the first 2GB.

    Hi Graffik,

If your MT4 terminal does not support a specific symbol, you have a few options:

    – Find a broker that supports that symbol and use their MT4 terminal to export to.
    – Export the symbol from Tickstory and map the symbol to a “similar” instrument that exists in your MT4 terminal. For eg. you could try mapping GBPCAD to GBPUSD by:

      – Selecting the GBPCAD symbol in Tickstory and then selecting File->Export to MT4
      – In the Metatrader Info tab for GBPCAD, enter ‘GBPUSD’ in the Maps To field.
      – When complete, you should be able to test in MT4 under the symbol ‘GBPUSD’ which will actually contain the data for GBPCAD.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi kong,

Sounds like MT4 is not being launched correctly on the second time for some reason. I would ensure that your FXT files are firstly labelled as ‘read-only’ so they don’t get over-written. After this, further details would be needed to see if the problem can be reproduced. Are you using Windows 7?

    Thanks..
