    Hi Render,

From what I understood from your last post was that you were still getting the ‘no data for testing’ message, however it appears you have gotten further than that.

The issue you are most likely having is with a limitation with MT4 which supports a maximum of 2GB file sizes. This means that you can’t currently back-test a large period of data. Please see this post for more details and how you can work around the issue:

    Thanks.

You write there: “- Break your back-test down into say yearly exports.”

Does that mean that I need to export the historical data year by year and then run the backtest for the entire period of time or that I need to export the data year by year and run separate backtests for each year every time after I finish the exporting for that year?

    Hi Render,

Could you please confirm you have followed the exact steps outlined in our video tutorial:

If you can’t get things working after this video, you will need to provide some screenshots to help troubleshoot your issue.

    Thanks.

Yes, I have watched and thoroughly followed this video.

    Here are the requested screenshots:

As a quick follow-up: just restarted Tickstory and MT4 through it (F8), then attempted a backtest from 01.01.2012 until present and still got that “no data” message in the journal.

    Hi Render,

When you receive the ‘no data for back-testing’ message it usually indicates that you have not launched your MT4 terminal via Tickstory. This post might also assist you:

    Regards.

OK, and what about the backtest’s early ending? I’ve just encountered it again – set a backtest to run from 01.01.2008 until 19.06.2013 and it finished on 29.01.2009. It’s not a matter of slow processing as I can see the actual backtest report already displaying under the strategy tester’s report tab.

    Hi Render,

I have tested the standard ‘MACD Sample’ EA under the same Build 432 available for download and I can confirm that I can see 5-digits.

Are you able to try the same EA and see if it reports 5-digits when testing with EURUSD (of course, make sure that your export EURUSD data with 5-digits)?

    Thanks.

Do you see only the opening prices in the 5-digit format or the SL/TP values too?

    Here’s how I see it:

I’ve also just moved the MT4 build 432 and Tickstory from disk C to disk D on my computer (where I have more free space) and finished downloading the EURUSD and GBPUSD M15 tick data since 01.01.2008. However, when I attempt to run a backtest, I only get a bizzare “no data for testing” error message in the MT4 journal. What should I do?

    Hi Render,

You will need to ensure that your EA supports 5-digit brokers. If not, you will need to ask them to update the EA for you.

    Hope this helps.

My EA was actually designed for 5-digit brokers yet the chart pricing and the SL/TP values of your build 432 are 4-digit – kindly refer to my screenshot above. Do you have MT4 build 432/445/451 with 5-digit pricing?

I’ve just backtested my EA using the build 432 suggested on this forum and see the opening prices being in the 5-digit format while the SL/TP values are in the 4-digit format. How do I get the SL/TP values to be in the 5-digit format too?

Tried what you suggested and it now works just fine – thank you so much! I assume that’s what that pop-up window in bad Russian was trying to say (which I couldn’t understand – thought it was like saying to make sure there’s at least 1 MT4 instance in the parent folder). Not bashing your effort by any means – just offering my free help in exchange of your fantastic free tool. Обещаю сделать качественный перевод на русский. 😉

I also figured my problem with build 451 and the symbol drop-down menu in the strategy tester – it’s because of the “pro” suffixes the Forex.com symbol names have (EURUSDpro etc).

Managed to get to step 4 from your installation video with the previous version of Tickstory (which I downloaded from your website having used Google cache to get the download link) but the symbols (currency pairs) with build 451 do not display in the drop-down menu of the strategy tester (see the attached screenshot) and I am still getting the message about the build 432 folder in the Program files not appearing to be the proper directory.
