I’ve also just moved the MT4 build 432 and Tickstory from disk C to disk D on my computer (where I have more free space) and finished downloading the EURUSD and GBPUSD M15 tick data since 01.01.2008. However, when I attempt to run a backtest, I only get a bizzare “no data for testing” error message in the MT4 journal. What should I do?
Hi Render,
When you receive the ‘no data for back-testing’ message it usually indicates that you have not launched your MT4 terminal via Tickstory. This post might also assist you:

OK, and what about the backtest’s early ending? I’ve just encountered it again – set a backtest to run from 01.01.2008 until 19.06.2013 and it finished on 29.01.2009. It’s not a matter of slow processing as I can see the actual backtest report already displaying under the strategy tester’s report tab.
As a quick follow-up: just restarted Tickstory and MT4 through it (F8), then attempted a backtest from 01.01.2012 until present and still got that “no data” message in the journal.

Yes, I have watched and thoroughly followed this video.

Hi Render,
From what I understood from your last post was that you were still getting the ‘no data for testing’ message, however it appears you have gotten further than that.
The issue you are most likely having is with a limitation with MT4 which supports a maximum of 2GB file sizes. This means that you can’t currently back-test a large period of data. Please see this post for more details and how you can work around the issue:

You write there: “- Break your back-test down into say yearly exports.”
Does that mean that I need to export the historical data year by year and then run the backtest for the entire period of time or that I need to export the data year by year and run separate backtests for each year every time after I finish the exporting for that year?
Hi Render,
A single FXT can be a maximum of 2gb and you can only use a single FXT at a time on MT4. You can therefore workaround the limitation in various ways such as moving around the HST & FXT files as required to a single MT4 installation, or having multiple MT4 installations that have a specific date range of data.
Hope this helps.
