What the story on MT4 build 600+, tickstory? Where is the link to all things related to this build? For some starter questions see below:

The new MQL4 is a major change; for developers who need to do backtests, availability & integrity of data is important. My current situation is this: I have 3 or 4 metatrader installs, for different purposes. One of the installs is a test environment that

    i) has never connected to the Internet,
ii) never had LiveUpdate run on it
    iii) has a 509 build
iv) has no account associated with it (so the prompt to login/create an account comes up every time)
    v) is where the Dukascopy fxt data lives

It has never connected because the second it does the hst files get updated and it all goes Pete Tong (wrong)

    1) If my metatrader terminal is upgraded from 509 to 600+, will tickstory still launch it? If yes, what version of tickstory?
    2) Will the (Dukascopy) data I downloaded last year via tickstory remain pure and untouched if I upgrade from the old version of tickstory?
    3) Whats the best way of upgrading so status quo is maintained and Harri stays a happy bunny?

    Looking forward to your resonses….

Alternatively, could you confirm what programming language Tickstory is written in? Is it C/C++? I have Visual Studio installed…. do you mind if I hack/decompile Tickstory to get this to work?

    DUMB! DUMB! DUMB!

Tried installing Tickstory on a USBstick – went fine, but it screwed up my laptop install. Now I’ve lost Goldstar status and cannot get it back. BTW, I am not using version 432 of MT4 but the latest.

So, once again – UNLINK FACEBOOK LIKING TO TICKSTORY FUNCTIONALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS A VERY BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello

Any update on this? It is still causing a problem when I want to change which MT4 installation I use in “MT4 settings”.

Congratulations on the release of version 1.0! I know you might not want to tinker with your brand-spanking new release, but I notice another user is having the same issue as me

    Thank you very much

My experience with TickStory has been that you need to install the software as Administrator, and also run it as an Admin user – it wont work otherwise.

In the manifest for the install, there is a setting that requires Admin rights, and for the installed program as well. When bundling up the setup.exe, you need to fix these settings correctly so non-admin users can run TickStory.

As a workaround, I i) Installed in a non-standard directory, ie, NOT C:Program Files, which require admin access and ii) I have used Microsoft ACT tool 5.6 to create a “shim” that bypasses the need for the admin password (“RunAsInvoker” setting) when you run the installed program. It 90% works, but sometimes crashes when it tries to access something in C:ProgramData (You should fix this too). The crash report looks like this:

    Product version: 0.9.2.0

@tickstory: Maybe you should consider not using Facebook as a enabler for your functionality? It is also possible for Facebook to be blocked at an individual or company level.

    Hello tickstory

As I said in my original post, I do like Tickstory – very much in fact. My issue is the linking of running the application with a social media site. Ie, if a user does not ‘like’ via a Facebook account then he/she is unable to launch MT4 terminal v.509. I do not understand the business logic behind this requirement? What I have done is setup a separate Facebook account (and new email account to validate it) so that I can launch MT4. Surely you could setup an appreciation button on your website and not have it linked to Facebook?

Tried launching MT4 this morning (UK time) and I have to login to Facebook and ‘like’ again so I can gain my gold star and be allowed to run MT4. So it looks like I have to click the ‘like’ every time I boot up Tickstory?! (Naturally my cache and cookies are cleared when I come out of my browser)

I shall try your suggestion of downgrading MT4 – I hope the gigabytes of data Ive already downloaded is ok (ie, the .hst and .fxt file formats)

    Thank you.

    Whats this ‘Like’ button business?

I am running MT4 version 509 and I have the same issue. I like TickStory BUT, I do NOT like Facebook, mainly because of privacy issues, how on earth is clicking a Facebook Like button related to being able to launch a trading application or not?????? Surely the developers do not need ego-stroking to know how popular their application is?

    Unimpressed Harri
