in reply to: Invalid file error (was: About the FXT problem) #18556
Hi fxchess,
This is most likely due to your FXT file being greater than 2GB. At the moment does not support this, so you have 2 choices:
– Break your back-test down into say yearly exports.
– Use Tick Data Suite (a third-party product) which supports > 2GB FXT files.Hope this helps.
in reply to: Tickstory crash at startup. #18553Excellent news – thanks for letting us know how you solved it.
Have fun back-testing!in reply to: Tickstory crash at startup. #18551Hi m8se,
Thanks for the further detail. Sorry, I forgot to mention that the specific version of .NET required is v3.5. Could you please install this and try again. The setup.exe installation should be checking for this version and prompt you. If it isn’t, then can you please try install .NET v3.5 manually and try again?
Thanks!
in reply to: Tickstory crash at startup. #18549Hi m8se,
Thanks for raising your issue. Tickstory has the ability to detect any unhandled errors and display it’s own detailed error message to trouble-shoot the issue. When you get the MS crash window, it usually means something fundamental is missing and/or corrupted such as the .NET installation. Could you please assist identifying the issue by answering a few questions:
– What Windows operating system are you using (including whether you are running it on a VM or virtualised environment)?
– Would you have a screenshot of the error message or further detail on the full/exact error message? Does it indicate which particular file is missing?
– Have you managed to run it on another computer where it works successfully? (This can help rule out whether it is an issue with language settings, network-related, etc). If not, can you please try uninstalling and re-installing .NET v3.5 to see if this helps?
– Can you please check the Windows “event log” to see if there is any further information about the error?Hopefully we’ll get this resolved soon!
in reply to: Possible V7 issues? #18548Hi trying2trade,
Glad all your questions are answered. If you have any further suggested enhancements, let us know!

in reply to: Possible V7 issues? #18547Hi trying2trade,
You raise a good question with regards to what “support” means, so please let me clarify. The launcher itself is considered to be a “non-core” feature of Tickstory – it is there to assist users to back-test with Metatrader 4, however it is not a “database” feature which is the prime goal of Tickstory. Due to the nature of how the launcher needs to work, future changes could render it unusable in which case we cannot guarantee any support or fixes since this is out of our control.
With regards to what MT4 versions the launcher currently “supports” in 0.7b, it has been tested on MT4 Build 432, 445 and 451 (and potentially may work on future releases).
In regards to your back-testing issue, could you please give the exact error that MT4 is reporting? Usually the problem you described will happen when your FXT files are greater than 2GB, so check this first.
Hope this helps!
in reply to: No history data for EURUSDi1 #18505Excellent news – thanks for the feedback, Thomas.
in reply to: TickInfoExpert #18512Hi ramacan,
Good to hear you worked around the issue.
More than likely what you’re experiencing is due to Windows 7 folder virtualisation. Have a read of this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927387 which explains how files that are written into the Program Files folder are redirected to a user-specific location. You can turn this feature off if you like or see if you can find the file in your user directory.
Hope this helps!
in reply to: Export in 4H, 30M time frames #18508Hi jfroth,
Support for exporting 30-minute, 4-hour and 12-hour time-frames to file will be available in the next release. Custom time-frames are on the todo list.
Regards.
in reply to: TickInfoExpert #18510Hi ramacan,
Did you run the EA on a live chart? If so, then it should be in the experts/files directory (if you ran it in the Strategy tester, the file will reside in the tester/files directory). The system does check if the file fails to write and will give you an error message if this is the case. Since you dont have the error, I would expect it to be there. Could you please re-check you have the correct Metatrader installation folder. If that doesn’t help, try doing a file search for *.mtconfig and see if that finds anything.
What Windows version are you using?
Regards.
in reply to: Export in 4H, 30M time frames #18506Hi jfroth,
File exports for custom time-frames is a good idea and has been put on the todo list. If you have some specific time-frames in mind that you would like (you’ve mentioned 30 min and 4 hourly – anything else?) then please let us know and we’ll try get it in the next version.
Regards.
Hi jfroth,
The naming convention is acquired from the Windows operating system (which, incidentally, is slightly more explicit under Windows 7 vs XP) and is essentially intended to name the base time-zone followed by the location. The location effectively determines whether daylight savings applies or not. London, for example, does have daylight savings although technically in the GMT timezone. When selecting a timezone, think in terms of “What location should my time-stamps be adjusted to?”
For your purposes, you are looking to select the location that does not apply any daylight savings time which is “GMT – Monrovia, Reykjavik”. Under Windows 7, it is simply “UTC – Universal Coordinated Time”. Note that the “pure” UTC/GMT time is selected by default whenever you export.
There is more information in the original thread you posted on this topic (http://www.tickstory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23&sid=ab7c03336f2c4ff8f474a9199f97cccb) and also in the manual under the topic of “Time-zones”.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: Supported MT4 Launcher Version #18499Hi pipkiller,
Are you asking how to start the launcher? If so, just press F8 to start the launcher. The launcher currently supports MT builds 432, 445 and 451 (and also Tick Data Suite if you have it installed). If the launcher does not work on your version, it will give you a message box prompt. Otherwise, it will change the title of the MT4 title bar. Some further details (including screenshots) are in the manual.
Hope this helps.
in reply to: No history data for EURUSDi1 #18503Hi Thomas,
Since your MT4 broker is not using the standard “EURUSD” symbol name, you will need to tell Tickstory that it needs to be translated to “EURUSDi1” instead. You can do this by the following steps:
1. Select the EURUSD symbol, right-click and select Export to MT4.
2. Select the Metatrader Info tab and then select EURUSD symbol in the Symbol properties.
3. In the Maps To field, type EURUSDi1.
4. (Optional) Save these settings as your default.
5. Export your data and once the export is complete, your EURUSDi1 data should be available in the MT4 History Center. If this works, you should use the supplied °Tickstory Info° EA which can automatically generate all your broker-specific settings. If all your symbols have the “i1” suffix, you should specify this in the EA °Suffix° parameter prior to running it so it generates the correct spreads and mappings for you. See the section on “Customising MT4 Export settings” in Help Manual if you need further details on how to do this.
Hope this helps!
P.S Could you please tell us what broker uses this suffix and what does the “i1” denote?
