Hi Duker – please ensure you have applied your license by going to Help->License code and entering the license code you were emailed. Then try the launcher again.

    Regards.

    Hi Lenny,

Your payment of US$23.95 gives you early access to Tickstory along with any updates until August 31st. Other terms of the software license do not change. We unfortunately cannot guarantee updates indefinitely for the fee we are charging which is why this limitation is specified. If there is sufficient uptake of licenses, then this would mean we could provide on-going updates for a longer period. Again, this structure is designed to benefit all – if users participate, then you will continue to get updates for free just as before. If not, we will restructure our thinking and ensure that licensed users somehow benefit from their early adoption (aside from the obvious advantage of getting to use the latest software right now).

    Thanks.

    Hi Duker,

Thanks very much for the details – it really helps. From what I can see, you haven’t selected the “Launch MT4” button in Tickstory which is a necessary step to ensure the exported data can be used.
Can you please do this and try back-testing again? I can’t see any other issues with the steps you’ve taken. The messages you mention are only warnings and do not stop your back-test.

If you haven’t already, you might want to check out our ‘Getting Started’ video:

    Hi all,

Off the back of a user suggestion, we have just released v1.6.1 which suppresses the banner ads until at least the end of August. You can download this version by using the same link that was issued to you upon registration. New registrations will automatically receive the update.

    Kind regards.

    Hi Hylocharts,

Could you please clarify which version of Tickstory you are using – licensed v1.6 or v1.5?

    Thanks.

    Hi Matinhas,

    – It will allow optimization on MT4?
Users have been using it with optimisation. You can try things out with v1.5 and an earlier version of MT4 to make sure it does what you want. If it works with v1.5 it will work with v1.6.

    – will be possible to download ticks from other servers, like FXOpen?
The only data source we support at the moment is Dukascopy who provide quite reliable tick-level data.

    Regards.

    Hi Lenny,

Thanks again for the input. I appreciate what you’re saying and we are looking to further delineate free vs paid features in the next major version of the software. We plan to add numerous features that will be exclusively available to licensed users. Until this time, we do believe there is notable value in having the v1.6 ahead of time (along with priority answers such as this) and we have priced this accordingly – and we believe quite reasonably. Tickstory v1.6 is not accessible to the general community and won’t be for some time. Although we tried to make these terms explicit upfront, we would be happy to process a refund for you if believe that this was not clear or if you don’t see the value.

If it is the case that users are simply waiting for a free version, then this is not in the spirit of what we have been creating over the last few years. We offer this option for those who genuinely cannot contribute financially but hopefully can participate in other ways such as helping other users or assisting with a translation, etc. A thriving community ultimately helps all users. We understand that this is radical thinking and that not everyone may share this vision. If this is the case with a majority of users (as indicated by the uptake of v1.6 licenses and the gauge we are publicising), we will go back to some conventional commercial thinking.

In the more immediate term, we are looking into your suggestion about suppressing advertisements for v1.6 paid users and will update this thread accordingly.

    Thanks.

    Hi Lenny,

We’ve had a further think about this and will see if we can find a good medium to address this issue.

    Will update this thread.

    Hi Lenny,

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, the payment for v1.6 at the moment is purely for ‘early access’ to the standard Tickstory software including any relevant updates until (at least) 31st August. This allows us to keep the entry price low as possible while still giving paid users the value-add of being able to have the latest software. We have had to plan it this way because if ultimately there is minimal support at this price, we will obviously need to restructure what we offer.
We do completely agree with you, however, about giving paid users the option for removing banner ads and this is one of the options we are exploring.

    Regards.

    Hi DaveM,

Thanks for the words of wisdom 😉 We’re currently at around <1% uptake (and thanks to all these users!) so hopefully more users will continue to come on-board! We'll update the meter above when things change notably. One way or the other, we are still powering on to get you the next shiny new version!

    Kind regards.

    Hi Ivolux23,

Thanks for your feedback – much appreciated. Regarding testing with a weekly time-frame, that’s a good question. Tickstory actually allows you export the weekly time-frame but in this case the tick (FXT) data is not used by MT4 – only the chart (HST) data. I’m not exactly sure what you would need to do to test in a weekly time-frame. Perhaps all that is necessary is to ensure all your indicators are explicitly specifying the weekly timeframe? There’s some discussion about testing with alternate time-frames here:

    https://www.mql5.com/en/articles/1368

Other than that, maybe some other users have some suggestions about how they have solved this problem.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Lenny,

Good to hear you resolved the issue. Yes, it is possible that MT4 overrides the title bar. The definitive way of telling whether you have successfully launched MT4 is if you receive no errors when using the “MT4 Launch” button. When no error notification is given, you are good to go.

    Hope this helps.

in reply to: Large data jumps #19808

    Hi Threshold,

Tickstory downloads Dukascopy data as-is – I suggest you go to the Dukascopy website and confirm for yourself (as we have) that the anomalous data points exist in their repository:

    https://www.dukascopy.com/swiss/english/marketwatch/historical/

It is possible that Dukascopy have filtered their candle-stick data (eg. 15 min) to remove these points and perhaps that is why other software is not picking this up. On the other hand, a couple of users have reported that this Dukascopy candle-stick data has various problems of its own (such as incorrect time-shifts). We prefer to work with the raw tick data since that way we ultimately know what we are giving to our users. This also means when we do eventually add the data filter option, we can be confident that you wont see differences like this between the tick data and candle-stick data.

    Regards.
