Tick Data

Post by shadrock »

Hi All,

I don't have a problem importing the data (using Multicharts), but I have an issue understanding how to use it properly. The tick data from the app seems to come in as BID and ASK series only. That is handy for backtesting.

That doesn't, however, provide the actual traded prices, does It? I think that I need the actual traded price because that is what my indicators will calculate on. Aside from the BID/ASK imports, is there another metric (open, high, low, close) that I should import that is the actual price most charting packages provide?

Hi Shadrock,

Currency data only provides the quotes 'bid' and 'ask' values since there is no one central exchange that can provide definitive trade data. When constructing Open/High/Low/Close bars, you need to select which price - bid or ask - to use. Typically the bid price is used.

If you wish, you can export OHLC bars directory from Tickstory by selecting the bar time-frame (eg. 1-minute) and it will construct bars from the tick data using the bid price.

Hope this helps.

Hi TickStory Team,

I'm pretty new to Tickstory and really appreciated your service.

From your statement above, I understand that for constructing OHLC data typically the bid prices are used.

I'm wondering how I can export OHLC for ask prices in 1min time frame to a csv file.

Thanks for your support.

Hi Abeaver,

Welcome to the group. Yes, Tickstory currently uses bid prices to construct bars/candles.
Aside from the manual, you can find out more on how to export bar data to file here:

You can also find a wealth of other information here:

Note purchasing a licensed copy of the software also gives you the added benefit of updates and official support.

Hope this helps.
