test generator -no data history... been trying to fix for days now

hi all,

i've watched and read anything relative to making a mt4 strategy tester 99% modelling quality for ea testing. I've used tickstory to add a year of data and followed the guides, created a new mt4 and exported the tickstory data across. keep getting the error no data for pair and the .fxt data in tester history then gets wiped back to 0k.


does anyone know how to fix this and free me from this nightmare

Hi Ghunter,

When exporting to MT4, please make sure the "Make FXT read-only" box is checked. You might want to then double-check it is marked as read-only by going to File Explorer and right-clicking, selecting 'Properties' and making sure this read-only checkbox is flagged.

This should stop them being overwritten by MT4.

I re-downloaded it and now get a new error. can't read as its ready only - no data. see attachment. have you seen this before?

Hello,

From your last screenshot, please make sure you have re-exported your data again (since one of your files has been emptied of data). Also please make sure you uncheck the "Use Dates" checkbox in MT4. This will make sure you aren't trying to test for a date period that you haven't exported which will cause a similar error.

Please ignore the read-only notification, it is not an error.

Dear TickStory/Support,

I belief I followed all mentioned suggestions.
Testing and Optimizing Open prices only - fails.

Error: TestGenerator: no history data 'GPYJPY15'.
Open Data Folder/tester/history shows the GPYJPY[nn]_0 fxt files with today time stamp (fresh export today).
After a test it show also a GBPJPY15_2.fxt file with size 0 KB.
Open Data Folder/history shows GBPJPY[nn].hst files none empty, some small sizes.

I believe I've seen earlier GBPJPY15_1.fxt and GBPJPY15_2.fxt files that where not empty.
I'd deleted the GBPJPY_2.fxt empty file to see if it would help.
Checked origin.txt file, it's OK.
MetaQuotes MT4 Version 4.00 build 1356.

Hi Richard,

The Metatrader 4 Strategy Tester uses the *.hst files to generate the Open price (GBPJPY[nn]_2.fxt) files. The main two things to check are:

- That the history (*.hst) files exist in your data folder with *exactly* the same symbol name as your broker. You can ensure this by selecting the correct symbol from the "Map to" field in Tickstory's MT4 Export->MT4 Settings screen.
- That you have not selected "Use dates" in the MT4 Strategy Tester that do not exist in the exported history date range. For safety, uncheck this box until you resolve the issue.

If the above 2 suggestions didn't work for you and/or you believe files are missing from your installation, it is highly recommended you do a fresh MT4 install, connect to your broker and then perform a test with Open Prices mode. Once that is working, you should be able to proceed with testing with Tickstory.

The two reasons given above are the only reasons we know why MT4 might be giving the "no data for testing" error.

Thanks for the tip, will do a fresh MetaQuote MT4 install.

Do we have a TickStory Lite user manual or at least instructions how to safe settings as administrator?

Not sure if I will connect to my broker before completing optimization, instructions EA supplier.

Unfortunately it did not solve the problem.
Even before Export/Downloading TickStory Lite data.

Open Data Folder/tester/history GBPJPY15_2.fxt Size zero (0).
I would expect to see first GBPJPY15_1.fx and not zero (0).

Had a (old) corrupted/virus MetaQuotes MT4 plarform.
Installed broker's MT4 platform it's much better now.
I'm not out of the woods yet

Need to check why Launch MT4 doesn't work.
Get modeliing quality n/a with green bar.
Can you advise?

Looks like issue is not TickStory or MetaQuotes MT4 related.
Will need to ask EA supplier I guess.
