Tickstory vs Birt's Tick Data Suite

Post by zeTrade »

Hey all!

I downloaded TickStory lite then downloaded EURUSD data to finally figure out that the launcher does not support my recent MT4 build.
Now I have to buy a license to use it. I do not seem to be the only one to go through that process only to realize it's not possible to use it for free.

Why not state it more clearly on the download page (Red, uppercase with flashing arrows) and save fellow humans some valuable time?

Anyway, my question is, once purchased, does TickStory allow running expert advisor optimizations using tick data?

Thanks

Hi zeTrade,

As mentioned on the "download" page, the free version of Tickstory supports only a certain set of MT4 builds. You will need to revert back to a supported build to use the launcher (although bear in mind that we provide limited support for this configuration).

Regarding optimisations, yes, it is possible to perform them.

Hope this helps.

It's the way it is written that is misleading.

I propose you add a clear message in red at the top of that page.

Just look at the forum, over and over, new people are just doing that mistake and then come to the forum to ask the same question!

Just a my 2 cents as a newcomer.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Hi zeTrade,vvThanks for the feedback. Are you suggesting specfically that "supported build" information be emphasised in some way?

Yes but also the lines
"Export to MT4" and "Back-testing support" are misleading as they seem to be meaning the same thing
If I read export to mt4 I expect that once exported to it i will be able to use it.
Instead of back testing support with an X, I would have liked a sentence saying "please note that back testing will not be possible unless paid version is used, lite version is for demonstration purpose only"

Have a good day!

Hi zeTrade,

Thanks again for the suggestion. The reason why these two are separated is to denote the fact that backtesting is possible with the free version, just not with the latest MT4 build. We've also got items in the FAQ etc to hopefully clarify further. Appreciate the feedback, we'll obviously try to annotate further as we go.

KInd regards.
