Hi,
i am somehow confused about the summer time switch:
I downloaded in "winter time" the ducascopy date for my Roboforex server in Eastern Europe with "UTC +1" and optimized the UTC settings of an EA with best results to UTC+2.
Now after summer time switch i download the data with UTC+2 for Eastern Europe and also get best results with UTC+2 for teh EA.
But..., when i go to real account, my time difference is now 1 hour more, so normally i need to set during "summer time" UTC+3 although i had my set file with UTC=2 in the real account, right ?
What is correct ?
Thanks !
summer time switch
Re: summer time switch
Hi Netprofit,
I'm not exactly sure what the issue is, but note that Tickstory will automatically adjust for daylight savings in the selected timezone. If you select the 'i' information icon you will see how your time is adjusted for daylight savings.
if there is some confusion over how your broker is adjusting their settings, I would suggest that you export purely in GMT when back-testing your EA. Then, you can more easily manage your EA settings for the specific broker simply by setting the GMT offset for the current period.
Hope this helps.

Re: summer time switch
Hi,
the problem is following:
I did the same back test of an EA with UTC settings.
Once with the downloaded ducascopy data before daylight savings with UTC+1 and once after daylight savings with UTC+2.
Both times i got as best UTC settings UTC+2 for this EA !
But in real now there is one hour time difference compared to march. Trading hours have changed for 1 hour against UTC.
So i need to set normally UTC+3 for the EA ?
And the difference in the results are dramatic: UTC+2 or +3 :
With 10k equity = Profit 35k or 7k:

Re: summer time switch
Hi Netprofit,
I can't really comment on the profitability of your EA. The most important thing is to ensure you are back-testing in the most effective way for your EA. If your EA requires a GMT offset and you are back-testing a date range that has GMT shifts, I would suggest you export only in GMT. This removes the confusion around these time-shifts. Then, back-test/optimise the entire period from there. When going live, change your EA GMT Offset parameter to whatever it should be for the current time.
Regards.

Re: summer time switch
Thanks for your reply
But that means for EAs with GMT settings i should make separate back test for summer and winter time period ?
(with this EA it is extreme , it is a night scalper. And for trading at the wrong time is too much movement and so losses)
Thanks

Re: summer time switch
Hi Netprofit,
When working in GMT, there is no necessity to consider daylight savings time-shifts. Just set your EA's GMT parameter to 0 while back-testing. Once you go live, you will need to set this parameter to whatever your broker's GMT offset is at the time.

Re: summer time switch
Thanks again.. )
But sorry, i can't use the GMT settings from the EA.
I need to optimize them!
The EA is a "night scalper", it first opens after NJ closing trades, when markets cooled down.
And it is very important what GMT settings i use.
As you can see here for EURCHF the seller say GMT+2 but with GMT=4 it is much more profitable...!
https://gyazo.com/27d7aa691da7e30d3e040ad255a991bb
But now after daylight switch normally i would need GMT+5, which was before very bad...
You understand?
What should i do ?
And what really happens with the ducascopy data, if i download them now with UTC=2 instead of UTC=1 in winter?
Are the trading times changed with 1 hour ?
Thanks !

Re: summer time switch
Hi Netprofit,
When you export with a specific timezone such as "Eastern Europe", the data is automatically shifted for summer & winter. You are essentially optimising an offset over an already shifting time. This doesn't make too much sense to me and is probably the reason for the confusion. I would suggest you export in GMT and optimise from there.
If you are unfamiliar how Tickstory shifts the time-zone and would like to learn more, please check out the manual where there is a section dedicated to this.
