Application Error on View

Post by DerkWehler »

I downloaded and used Tickstory recently using 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate, and had it DL all data for all pairs back to 2005 (or as far back as the given pair went).

Then I chose one, AUDJPY and exported to a MQ4 platform. I copied the files it made (M1 file was 215 MB, Monthly was 31 KB) over my servers files and opened M1. It did NOT go back very far, only to May 2014.

So I used Tickstory to view data, going back to 2005 and got an application error. Here is the info:

Product name: Tickstory Lite
Product version: 1.5.2.0
Details:
Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index
at System.Collections.ArrayList.get_Item(Int32 index)
at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItemCollection.get_Item(Int32 index)
at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.PaintWithErrorHandling(PaintEventArgs e, Int16 layer, Boolean disposeEventArgs)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmPaint(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.StatusStrip.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

Not sure what to try next.

Hi DerkWehler,

Thanks for the problem report - we are aware there are a few problems with the beta data viewer & charts and they will be addressed in the next major version. These errors should not affect the export process - only the viewing of data.

As for your data issue, you should have data going back to 2003 for AUDJPY. What does your 'earliest' date read when looking at the main Tickstory screen? If you don't have the date you downloaded from, please explicitly try the 'Download' option and ensure you get no errors during the process.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply and info.

If I can get it working, it is a really great product,so thank you.

When my HST files did not seem to be reflected on the chart, I tried to export as CSV. After messing with it enough to make sure the CSV format is what MT reads in, I tried to import it in the MT Histroy manager, but it all came up blank (which may not be 'your fault' -I have seem MT do this before. But usually it was cause my format was wrong or something, and this time I triple checked.

So I am going to go back to seeing if I can get TS to create HST files that work. Will let you know.

Thanks for your update, DerkWehler. MT4 has a few limitations on how large their data files can be, although this usually affects back-testing and not display of charts. If you have managed to use the "Download" option for the date range you need (with no errors reported), then it should indicate all is well in terms of having the tick data on disk. After that, it is just a matter of finding out why MT4 hasn't got the data you exported. Make sure you try viewing Metatrader's "History Center" to see if the data exists for the date range you exported. If not, it is possible that you can exported to the incorrect directory and/or server.

Hope this helps.

I was able to get it to make .hst file for a test pair (AUDCAD). On lower timeframes it appears the data is not good for 2007 - 2009 sometime, but overall it's working, so thanks again.
