Issue with back-testing less than 10% modeling quality

Post by FXNegus »

Hello, after following the instructions and downloading/exporting tick data to my mt4, everything was looking good. I launched mt4 directly from Tickstory and then tried to do back testing. That is where the problem starts, after doing a back test the modeling quality was basically bad. In-fact the testing model seems to be open price even-though was doing every tick modeling.

Could not find out what the issue is , the tick data history seems to be in the right place...

Did searched this form for possible solution but could not find one ...Can you help pls.

Hi FXNegus,

First thing to check would be to ensure that you are getting 99.9% quality on your back-test report. If not, the two main issues are likely to be 1) you haven't launched via Tickstory or it hasn't launched correctly or 2) that the exported files have been put in the incorrect directory. To check for the latter, in MT4 go to File->Open Data folder and ensure that the folder opened matches with your Tickstory settings.

Hope this helps.

Hi tickstory, thanks for the replay, I have a new problem now but first about the initial problem; apparently the problem with modeling quality was happening on only few handful pairs mainly the EUR pairs, especially EURUSD and GBPUSD. I found out that only on the H4 TF that I could get 99.9% of modeling quality, any other timeframe there was no such good modeling quality to talk about. Most of the other pairs though had 99.9% modeling quality as expected on all time frames.

Now back to my new problem, I had downloaded and exported 700Gb bite to my data history when I returned a couple of days later almost half of the history data was gone vanished. I could not figure out what happen. Luckily i did a backup of my history folder into another hard disk, but still i'm clueless to what happen to the data, how did it got deleted?

If i copy and pasted my backup data would it disappear in a couple of days? Also is there a way I can run the backtest directly from my backup history folder?

Hi Guys,

Just need some tips... Currently i'm having problem of loosing data and I do not why, my guess is the exported data is probably overwritten. So what is the correct way of running backtests without losing data? Is my MT4 downloading data deleting the tick data exported to my terminal? If so how do I prevent this happening Does MT4 need to connect to broker's server in order to do historical backtest using the tick data?

In other note, Tickstory Lite rocks!! It does the job well. Perhaps it would be a good idea to put Paypal donation button on your website for those who can not donate using Bitcoin.

Sorry but had enough with this bloody software now, I tried my best but it is just not stable enough. It is free and brilliant at times but It keeps losing data for me and I do not have that much time to waste.... I'm off for better alternative.

Thanks for the support.

Peace!

Hi FXNegus,

Sorry it's not working for you. The issue you have described appears to be due to your exported files not correctly being marked as 'read-only'. Tickstory does not delete the files it generates unless you choose to regenerate them. This means that MT4 (or something else) is deleting them at some point. We'd really like to resolve the issue for you if we can - are you able to firstly confirm that the files that Tickstory is generating (i.e. the *.FXT files) are being marked as 'read-only'? Also, do you know at what point the files are being deleted? Is it when you hit the 'Start' button on the strategy tester?

Thanks.

Hi, it seems I am having the same issue, to make it work, I deleted all history and all accounts in MT4 and download it again and launched from tickstory lite buttom, I am not sure if I am correct. Is there anyway that have account loging in mt4 and not losing the downloaded data?

Hi Peepmoney,

Could you please clarify which issue you're having - is all your history data being deleted without having explicitly done this yourself?

Thanks.
