Cannot use TickStory (Download issue)

I have an active subscription. For years I have been able to select 28 Forex pairs and click on download and update my data. I've been doing the same with indices, and some crypto. I decided to run a backtest on stocks so I selected all stocks and told TickStory (version 1.9.8.14) to download. When downloading forex I download 24 pairs at a time (I have 16 cores -- so 32 threads -- running at about 5GHz) and this has never been a problem. Now, however, I not only cannot download but I get a ton of errors. I have attached a small sample of those errors. Furthermore, I cannot even get access to TickStory.com. I get error 502 or 503 when I try to visit using my browser. I reset my router but that didn't help.

What is causing this complete issue? Do I need to set up a VPN?

Yesterday I tried to save my ETF data as 5 minute files and TickStory then tried to download the data that had already been downloaded. It couldn't do it and I still have no files to backtest with.

Are your servers seeing me as a bot?

We note that some of the errors you are getting are most likely due to Dukascopy's servers being overloaded (HTTP 50x errors). Now that you have recently renewed your subscription, you should be using our dedicated servers for download which should avoid these errors. Firstly, make sure you have restarted the application after your renewal so it gets your updated subscription information. In order to ensure orderly access to our servers, please ensure your "Maximum simultaenous tasks" is set to 2 in your File->Settings->General. This will ensure you do not fall-back to the Dukascopy servers and will result in your downloads being completed faster.

If you are not able to access tickstory.com in your browser, that is a different issue. In some countries where there is restricted access to the wider internet, you might need a VPN. That said, you have managed to access this forum which is on the same domain. Use the same internet connection and there should be no issue - otherwise, you could try a VPN.

Thank you. Okay, I set the max simultaneous tasks to 2. The downloads seems to be proceeding. I am located in Clearwater FL and using Spectrum as my internet provider. Until a few minutes ago I could not get to your web site. Now I can. Go figure...

However, here is an oddity: I have already downloaded the ETFs, so now I want to turn them into 5 min, 15 min, 30 min and 1 Hr files. Instead of just doing that, TickStory is redownloading them. Why?

More oddities: Well, I'm now creating files and TickStory is not trying to download. It's behaving as it has in the past. I am writing 32 files simultaneously and that seems to be moving along very nicely.

NO THAT IS WRONG! IT JUST STARTED TRYING TO DOWNLOAD AGAIN WHILE CREATING 5 MINUTE FILES. Then it stopped trying to download and went back to writing out the files...

Hi,

Please confirm in your "Help->About" menu whether your subscription for your specific license is active. According to our records you have 2 licenses - one has an active subscription and the other does not. If you are referring to the one without the active subscription then this instance will not be using our servers and consequently subject to these errors.

Regarding your other question - Tickstory does not re-download existing files unless you have

1) Changed the "Dukascopy Store folder" in which case it needs to redownload everything again (unless you also move the previous cache folder to the new location) or;
2) You have deleted the data or;
3) You are working with multiple machines and the machine you are working on does not have the cached data.

If you have previously downloaded a collection of data you should be able to see the corresponding cache data in the <DukascopyStoreFolder>\<SymbolName>\<year>\<zero-based month> folder. If these folders are non-existent or empty, then Tickstory will need to download these files.

I did not change the folder or delete any files. I'm working with one machine only. The active subscription is the one I recently purchased

Hi, did you check in the folders if the data exists? If it does, Tickstory will not re-downloading the data for the existing dates. If it doesn't exist, then Tickstory will need to download the data. There is no other logic than this.

AS the Forex daa is giving me no trouble, I'll use TickStory for that. I'm now getting my ETF, Stock, Commodity and so on from Alpha Vantage so this is a moot point. Thank you for your quick responses.

Thanks for the update, TradeBuilder. If you continue to have issues, please add some additional screenshots that will help identify any issues such as the data that exists in your cache folder versus the data Tickstory says it is trying to download.
