I am successful in running Tickstory Standard 1.9.8.12 on Ubuntu 25, using Bottles, which is an environment that allows me to run Tickstory on Wine using the engine soda-9.0-1.
Everything seems to be working more or less fine, the roadblock I currently have is with the Settings, once the dialogue window pops up I can see the tabs but the frames inside are just empty. Also, as you can see from the screenshot, in general the UI is a little wonky (but still usable): I have tried to use dotnet35sp1 as suggested somewhere else, I have also tried other version of .NET, but in reality this works even with Mono, it won't make a difference with the UI.
What makes a difference with the UI is actually changing the runner to sys-wine-11.0, which renders the UI in a significantly different way, but besides being way slower, it also then causes problems with launching MT4 with a message "A debugger has been found running in your system. Please, unload it from memory and restart your program.": I haven't gotten to the point of testing the actual download or export, because first I want to setup the proper directories in the Settings to prevent further issues around. My next step would be to try and do the setup while under sys-wine, then closee, change it back to soda (which MT4 is happy with), and see if it works. But it sounds very cumbersome.
I understand that there is no official support for Wine (quite needed with the direction Windows is taking nowadays, in my view), so I'm posting this to share my experience to help others out, but also in the hope somebody has managed to find the right combination of settings to make both Tickstory and MT4 coexist happily. Sometimes it's just about using that one particular obscure setting that nobody knew about, isn't it?
Thanks to whoever will share their 2 cents.
