Hi Magixo,
Not exactly sure what this error is indicating. The ‘profit calculation mode’ is one of the parameters that could be affecting things – possible values are 0=Forex, 1=CFD, 2=Futures.
Have you tried asking the question on the MT4 forums?
Thanks.
Hi
I have exactly the same error message when testing dax. First trade is opened then “tester cannot calculate prices” and backtest stops
How can we set the “profit calculation mode” ?
Hi Adeller,
Profit calculation mode is set in the “MT4 Info” tab when the “Export to MT4” option is selected. We’re still not exactly sure what causes this error in MT4 so if you do find a solution, please let us know.
Thanks.
Hello
I can confirm that setting the “Profit calculation mode” to 1 solved the issue for me
Hi Adeller,
Thanks for your feedback. We’ve also confirmed that the Profit Calculation Mode=1 (CFD) should address this problem. Attached is a screenshot denoting the settings to change when setting up the DAX index for export. You will need to make similar parameter changes when dealing with other indices and commodities.
Regards.

Hello tickstory
For some reason I cannot resolve another “tester cannot calulate prices” issue on USA500IDXUSA..
If you could help I would be grateful.Attached are my broker symbol details ant my MT4 config tab.

Thanks
Hi,
This is the way it works to me. I hope it help you.
With this parameters 1 Contract/Lot -> 1 point = 1 dolar for Dow Jones (the same as CFD in my prefered broker).
If you want to change dolars by point you must change parameter: “Lot size”. For example to 5, then… 1 point = 5 dolars. etc.
Thank you very much to Tickstory by this extraordinary program and especially their last contribution with indexes CFD data. 😀 😀 😀
Hi Adelle,
I think the problem is base currency. Try to change USA by USD.
Thanks Chicha I did it but still get the “tester cannot calculate prices” message
Hi all,
Such a long time I didn’t test indexes in MT4 but since I am trading again DAX I had to fight against this issue again
I already found a solution that I would like to share in order to shed some light if somebody else is finding the same problem. I tested in different indexes (DAX, CAC, IBEX, DJ, S&P500….) and It worked, also in different brokers.
Steps I follow:
1.- Without downloading any previous data from MT4 neither Tickstory I run a backtest for the EA and asset I want to test, TF doesn’t matter.
2.- Automatically it will generate a FXT file, you can find it in the /tester/history folder from your MT4 Data Folder
3.- Go to Tickstory->Tools-> Data MT4 Editor, pick up the file created in previous step.
4.- Now you will see all the information related to the asset to trade (in my case DAX for IG broker, attached)
5.- Go to Tickstory and download tick data, in the Metatrader Info tab just copy the information from previous step and Save it as a template. (mt4config)
6.- In tester->history folder every fxt for the TF chosen should now appear, they should be as “View mode only”. (You can further test repeating step 3 for the FXT generated)
7.- Run MT4 from Tickstory and get a nice balance curve 😉As you can see it’s so easy, hope this few steps avoid you wasting time looking for 99% backtests.
Best Regards!
