    Hi Ianbong,

Have you run MT4 at least once before attempting to configure your folder location in Tickstory?

    Thanks.

Yes, I’ve run all the different MT4 at least once.

It happens with different broker MT4’s. All installed in same location (program files x86).

Once I managed to clear the default MT4 installation (no idea how or why it happened). Selected another broker that refused to be recognized by Tickstory before, and voila~ it worked.

Tried doing that (clearing default MT4 installation) again but nothing happens.

    Hi Ianbong,

All the system does to recognise a “valid” MT4 installation is check for the presence of a server directory within MT4Installationhistory* that contains a ‘symbol.sel’ file. This file is created by Metatrader when it has first been started.
Please check that such a directory/file exists (other than the directory called ‘default’ which is ignored).

    Hope this helps.

@tickstory thanks. I created a new folder inside the MT4Installationhistory and copied a ‘symbols.sel’ file from another installed MT4. It worked.

This file can be found in all standard folders and not in another folder of the other facilities MT4, including inside the folder MT4. I copied the folder where this file, worked the MT4, but I can’t download the historical data.

    Hello

I downloaded a second version of mt4 build 509 from my real broker in order to use it without broker connection for backtesting while having the same symbol properties than my real broker.

I put it in a folder named MT4backtest but when I try to attach it to tickstory I get the “this does not appear to be a valid MT4 directory…” message even though there is a symbols.sel file in my MT4Backtesthistory

Would you have any idea why this isn’t working?

    Thanks,

    Hi Adeller,

More precisely, it will check for the existence of MT4Installationhistorysymbol.sel. Please enture the directory structure also includes the server name directory structure.

    Hello,

I am havin the same problem with Tickstory not recognising the MT 4 folder of installation. Can anyone show me how to fix this error. I am a complete newb with regards to backtesting and even though I suspect the answer is written above… I have no idea how to fix this error. Thank you very much for your time.

    Hi Ozzy,

If you are using the latest MT4 Build 545 and above, please refer to this post which discusses the beta version of Tickstory that supports these latest builds:
