Hello,

For backtesting I use the method explained by Mr Squiggle:
- clean install of MT4 from the MT4 site
- start MT4 and cancel out the creation of a demo and cancel login to account
- close MT4, by default it creates a history folder of "FXCM-USDDemo01" with only symbols.sel
- export a currency to this session with my broker config file
- started MT4 with no logon and run a strategy test

This works fine for me. Now I want to backtest a commodity (Spot WTI Crude Oil (symbol USO/USD)) provided by my broker (http://www.gomarketsaus.com/).
The point is that this commodity is not available through FXCM (demo account).

When I use the install file (MT4) from Gomarketsaus and create a demo, the backtesting doesn´t work (tried a lot of things, but nothing worked sofar).

Do you have any idea how a can solve this problem ?

Hi Milcodek,

It's likely that your settings for WTI Crude are not set correctly which could be the reason your EA is not trading. Check out the post here:

It describes a way of getting the MT4 settings for the symbol you need (in your case, Crude Oil from the Go Markets terminal).

During Step 2) of the process, it would be recommended to test your EA to see if it trades on the normal broker data. This will establish that your EA is at working with the Go Markets Crude Oil data. After confirming this, there can be only 2 reasons why your EA is not trading:

1) The MT4 Settings are incorrect (in which case, following the steps described in the mentioned post should resolve it) and/or;
2) Your EA is not trading due to something specific with the data (for example, spread too high). In this case, you obviously need to debug the issue.

Hi,

Does it make a differnce which demo account I use ?
When I use my demo account at Go Markets, backtesting won´t work (131 error).
When I use my demo at FXCM, there seems to be no problem.

Hi Milcodek,

The Error 131 may depend on the MT4 Build you are using. Are both the builds in your Go Market vs FXCM the same? If not, you could be coming across a bug that MT4 introduced:
