Server Busy or Unavailable (Licensed Version)

Hi,

For the past two weeks, Ive been getting regular 'Server Busy or Unavailable' log messages filling up the log. That's when I am downloading one currency pair, not several concurrently, and it doesn't matter which one I download. The longest delay Ive had between messages is 3 minutes, otherwise its several every minute.

Its not a one-off - its every time I download, whether its late at night, morning, weekend. Its looks like a default throttle. Ive tested my internet connectivity and speed and there is no problem there.

I thought buying a licensed version meant I don't get these errors at this regularity?

I used to use Tickstory free version, and I bought a license to make it run faster. Its actually just as bad. Its basically unusable.

Any ideas?

Update: When I click the unlocked padlock icon, I am asked to activate my licence. Ive already done this.
So I enter the licence key again. 'Thank you for supporting Tickstory' message appears.
Help/About shows my support id and 'updates and support expired.'
So I click the unlocked padlock again - and it asks me to enter my licence key again. Goto: Update (above).

(1) Why do I have to keep entering my licence key when I click the unlocked padlock?
(2) surely im not being throttled because I dont pay monthly for support? Im after a basic feature of the product, not an upgrade.

Hi GrahamHFX,

It appears Dukascopy servers are encountering issues with load at the moment. We cannot tell you if/when they will rectify these issues as this is beyond our control. For this reason, we recommend that you keep an active subscription. If you maintain an active subscription, you will be using our own dedicated servers and bypass Dukascopy's. If you go to Help->About and click on the "Renew" link, you can renew your subscription to ensure continued access to our servers (restart the application to ensure your subscription details are updated). Once you download a certain date range, this information is cached on disk and you should not need to download it again.

Regarding your question about activating your license, this is not necessary. An "unlock" padlock simply means that you have correctly activated the software. As above, you can check your current license status in the Help->About menu (the registered version of the software does not work unless correctly activated).

I’m experiencing a similar issue. Data export is extremely slow, and I’m not sure when the server will be back to normal.

I was in 2 minds about renewing subs, but there is now no chance I will be renewing my subscription. Zero. These are the reasons:

(1) Competitors have a fixed monthly fee - you have a large intro fee then rely on monthly subs
(2) My understanding is that when you download data from Dukascopy, it is stored locally. You can then export it how you like. Your post says "Once you download a certain date range, this information is cached on disk and you should not need to download it again." I have checked my local copy and the data is there on disk, taking up gigabytes - but when I export to CSV for example, it connects to Dukascopy servers, and we have the 'server busy or unavailable' all over again. So what you are saying is that only with a subscription does Tickstory fetch from local copy, even though I downloaded it all when I had my first month sub. But now I dont sub, its going bac to the server. This is not stated at all in the pitch material.

No chance. Tick Data Suite or QDM I will use going forward - they even have Darwinex data - you keep saying you will get alt data providers - 10 years or more now - but nothing.

Thanks for the feedback. We continue to monitor the issues with Dukascopy and will be reviewing our licensing model accordingly. It's worthwhile mentioning that if you had subscribed to another service since your original Tickstory purchase, you would have paid hundreds dollars (to thousands), not the $79 that allowed you many years of use from our software. Our licensing model has always been designed to give significant value to users, not to maximise profit. Of course we will continue to review this in lieu of any important developments. On previous occasions, Dukascopy have resolved their server capacity issues in time but of course, there's no guarantee.

As for the re-download, we just tested this again and reviewed the code retrieval logic to confirm that the software does not attempt to retrieve data if the data already exists. The only explanation with the information we have is that the range you are downloading (or portions thereof) have not been downloaded previously.
