Tickstory

Hi,

I have a Tickstory instance running on an AWS instance. On restart of the AWS instance, I get the message "You have exceeded the number of activations for this licence...." when I start Tickstory.

Its the same Tickstory instance with the same AWS instance ID. I start the AWS instance from a command line script - same region, same instance ID. But the public IP address is different, which is probably why I get this message.

I need an AWS instance for the capacity. Is the solution to get an Elastic IP which wont change and therefore I wont get this message?

Please confirm and reset.

Hi Graham,

Licenses are bound to your machine, not IP address. If you are switching between instances then this is likely to cause the issue. Your licenses have been cleared so you should be able to continue, however keep the above in mind when using these sorts of services.

As an aside, your subscription has recently expired. If you require on-going support, you can renew your subscription by going to Help->About in Tickstory and clicking the "Renew" button.

Ive been in cloud for years and run all my backtests in there.

Ive looked at my options in AWS - one of which is an elastic ENI, which persists various elements e.g. MAC address. When starting an instance which may be on a different underlying host, the ENI attaches and presents the same info (eg. MAC), designed for licences issues like this. Some enterprise vendors have adapted to cloud by offering token/floating licenses or cloud-based activation which adapts to the MAC problem.

I don't know how you bind, but i'll try ENI until it fails.

Hi Graham,

If you've been using AWS for some time now, I can tell you that your previous license only ever consumed 1 activation. As for the current one, it is currently consuming 2 activations. Our licensing scheme is tolerant to some changes in the machine's setup, however these are being identified as 2 totally separate machines.
