Question about exporting to MT4 (FXT Timeframes)

Post by colin_sands »

Hello, I'm new to Tickstory and I've recently purchased a licence, and just starting to do backtests. The EA makes entries based on daily open and close prices. It takes positions after 1AM each day. It exits during the New York close, from 2245 to 2259 each day. I have been downloading and exporting the 5 minute data, and the daily data. Is this all I need to use? I seem to be getting 100% full green bar, in the report. Would just the daily tick data be enough? I'm not sure if 1min tick data is necessary.

Many thanks for any help given. I'm very impressed with TickStory, after spending much time and money on lesser data suppliers, so thanks!

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your purchase and for your nice feedback!

Regarding you question, depending on the time-frames you are testing in with MT4, select the corresponding FXT time-frames when you are exporting data from Tickstory. For example, if in the MT4 Strategy Tester you test with the "5 minute" and "Daily" time-frames, then when exporting from Tickstory, you will only need to select the "M5" and "Daily" FXT time-frames. (Of course, you could check all FXT time-frames if you are unsure, however this will take significantly more disk space).

Don't forget that our manual also gives some helpful information about how MT4 databases work which might also be helpful.

Hope this helps.
