6 years backtest ends after 2 years and 5 months

Post by experienced_tester »

Hello

I congratulate you for this useful tool, I really needed something like this.

I downloaded all available EURUSD data starting Apr 2nd 2007 ending Jun 30 2013. The fxt file has 8.16 GB on a big partition, plenty of space.

I downloaded it and started the backtest. After about 9.5 hours it stopped by itself on Sep 13th 2009 (a real slow EA). I saved the report and then deleted all the data.

I downloaded again the same data. Started the same bt and it stopped on Sep 13th 2009, in the same place. The report was identical with the first one.

The same EA with the same settings has been run countless times with 90% quality from Jan 1st 2007 until Dec 30 2011. On the same broker: Deltastock. I used this broker for the last 2 years. The only new aspect is I installed a new instance of the broker on another partition (not C) cause I don't have enough space on C. I never opened the 2 instances simultaneously.

Operating System: XP Prof SP3 (I had problems starting Tickstory the first time and I read here the post which advised to upgrade the NET Framework 2.0 SP1 to NET Framework 2.0 SP2. Of course, after installing the 3.5. So it started.)

Thanks a lot. Regards,

Hi experienced_tester,

Sounds like you are coming across the limitation that MT4 has with FXT files being larger than 2GB..
These posts should assist you:

The reason why you could test longer periods before is because you were not using tick data which obviously is much more voluminous.

Hope this helps.
