OIL - how to backtest?

Post by loscsaba86 »

Hi All!

I have Valutrades as broker. I want to backtest the Oil. The name is USOil+

I exported the instrument properties with " + " suffix and then I used the "Map to" feature.
As I wanted to load the saved .mt4config file, the setting for the oil were totally wrong. I checked: the Tickstory Expert just saved the CURRENCIES in the .mt4config file. The properties (tick size, lot step, digits, etc.) from other instruments weren't there.

I started anyway the tester and it wrotes me, that 99,9% (so it would be ok) but there were no trades... And the expert should have had to open some trades. I guess, the values at the instrument properties were not good for some calculaction?

How could I find it out what should I write in the fields, so that the expert makes trades?

Thank you for your reply!

Hi Loscsaba86,

Due to a limitation with MQL, for "special" (i.e. non-FX) symbols you will need to use this method to obtain the correct settings:

http://tickstory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=809

This method will get all the correct information (such as lot size) for your broker's "OIL" symbol.

Hope this helps.
