Clarification on commission settings

Post by leeb77 »

Hi, I want to be sure that I am getting my commission settings correct in TickStory, could you tell me:

1) If I want to specify 0.35 pips commission every time a trade ( with a 5 digit broker) is open or closed I should set:

Base comm: 3.5
Comm lots: 1
Comm type: 1

2) I could also express it in currency of $7 USD commission per round trip as:
Base comm: 7
Comm lots: 0
Comm type: 0

Could you clarify that is all correct? Thanks, Lee

I think I understand most of the settings but the one I am struggling with is Comm lots. Could you clarify the difference between 0 (per lot) and 1 (per deal) is a deal a round trip? Eg: cost to open AND close the trade and per lot would be each trade? Thanks, Lee

Thanks for your reply but could you clarify:

Regarding the comm lots setting - is 0 (per lot) charged every trade?
and 1 (per deal) is for a round trip eg: total cost to open AND close a trade?

This is really important for me to get right for accurate backtesting, thanks, Lee

Hi Leeb,

That is correct. Per lot = per lot traded. Per deal = round trip.

Hi tickstory support, thanks for clarifying that - could you just let me know one more thing - what does the 'GTC Pending' tickbox in the Metatrader info tab do? Does this need to be ticked for accurate stop/limit position backtesting? thanks again, Lee

Hi Leeb,

I believe this setting relates to how pending orders are handled by the system and whether they are "good until cancelled". I suspect most EAs do not need to worry about this setting, but if you believe this may affect you, then the best way to get your server setting is by using this method:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=809

Just note the 'GTC Pending' setting taken from the server and use it for your back-tests.

Hope this helps.
